We don't free range anymore either, they got out. No idea who owns the dogs, there are always packs running loose in our area. These will have to be dealt with.Oh no! I hope your son had a chat with the owner, or called animal control.
This is why I don’t free range here unless I am watching them - crazy neighbours and their nutty dogs.

They have their moments...Boys are such fun![]()
Thank you Marie!I am so sorry for all you have lost
It's so bloody unfair outsiders ruin your life, making it so you can't have a well deserved break.
I hope you can make these people accountable for their dogs not being kept under their control.
Thank you RC!Oh no!
So very sorry.

It is hard enough to lose our feathered friends - but even worse when it is like that.
You should report the dogs & owners. You can't replace the ones you lost- but the dog owners should pay for replacement chickens/the value of adult chickens. I know there is controversy around what to do - but I grew up on a small farm way back when - and in the winter groups of roving dogs would chase our cows. My father contacted the owners 2x. After that...oddly enough, the dogs just seemed to disappear. (with the help of dads rifle and his backhoe to dispose). We had to put one of the cows down it was beat up so bad. There was a tree leaning near the fence-line (but on Watershed/reservoir property) that they learned they could climb the angled tree & jump into the pasture - but then couldn't get out. It took over a month for the reservoir maintenance crew to cut down the tree....and the dogs were in the pasture daily once they learned they could get in. But, again, after 2 times of bringing the dogs to owners and telling them they were after our livestock & reporting them to animal control (there was a leash law back then)....and no effect...dad wasn't about to lose another cow!...the dogs just never came home one evening. (There was 1 responsible owner that took notice - but the other 3 dogs still came round....until they didn't)
