I have both types. I didn't care for either. The 1st is too messy and the scatter feed. The 2nd is better but mine kept coming apart. I may of had a defective one but when I picked it up the top would seperate and spill feed everywhere.
That is what happened to my one like the top one. I rigged it with an eye bolt to hang up and then the bottom fell off.

Oh Lord help us all.
I have released the Kraken!
And I did not expect that the first peck to land was Chippy jumping up to peck Pooh’s comb! Poor Pooh she was taken aback to say the least.

The chicks don’t know any better and Pooh is learning too!
The first thing boss pullet Shanai did when she met Tedi was jump up to chest bump with her, and win and dominate like she always did with everyone else she knew up to that point. She didn’t win.

Tedi is the easiest- going Spud with these pullets, she doesn’t / never did hunt them and usually doesn’t drive them away, she just goes about her business. But she had to respond to that impunity, and she did, but it was quite minimal.

Two things about each feeder - both could use more substantial tab sliding closures. The red one has a twist-off tabbed base, at least the red one I have does. So you’d have to be sure it’s twisted completely on before hanging. Probably they figure it’s not likely to twist off siting on the base. The only thing I like about it is the narrow space it takes up. But I wanted a second chick feeder outside, and the spillage is a big fail. I haven’t seen a small narrow flat-holed hanging feeder yet, though I haven’t thoroughly searched.

The blue one (my version is yellow, below) likely has a twist-off tabbed top like mine. The bottom snaps on with mine. I make sure the top is not half-off before hanging or removing, which happened to me once. Now I actually leave the top hanging and twist off the container below to fill it. Then reattach lined up with the tab top the way the top “wants” to hang. After making sure it’s set right and firm, I hang it leaning against something, like the leg of the walker here, which stops it spinning when pecked at. I had wondered if the force of pecking / knocking and spinning might actually loosen the top.

A walker. A WALKER!!!🥰🥰

Now I know what to do with my mom’s original walker!

I had one like the top one. I didn’t love it because I couldn’t hang it. And yes they spilled a lot.
Somehow I can’t find it so these current chicks got food in a mini crock pot I got on eBay. It is heavy so doesn’t tip over. Only disadvantage is that Chippy is dust bathing in it. Tassels keeps scooping her out so everyone can eat!
You can see the two little pots in this picture.

Awwww...mommy, there is lots of dust in the food, so it is a GREAT place to DUST BATHE 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

(and it is just the right size for one, too!)

@RebeccaBoyd :best wishes with your surgery. PLEASE, PLEASE do not push it. IT is bad of your boss to be pushing you (though I understand why) - do not cave and go to work until you are physically in an okay place for that. One wrong twist or stumble and you could do a whole lot of damage. I KNOW you well enough to know you will be going a bit stir crazy BEFORE you are physically ready to go back - even 'just for running the register.' Next thing you know - oh, can you just refill my coffee - oh, Can you just get me a muffin.....yadda, yadda, yadda.

Stay home and snuggle with your chickens, watch the babies and the mommas....get a chaise lounge chair that you can put right outside the silkie pen, and have it adjusted right for reclining.....and watch the adorable and entertaining 'Silkie Chicken TV'

We love you and want you to HEAL properly and completely.❤️:hugs❤️:hugs❤️:hugs❤️

Trust me, I know how hard it is to follow my own advise....just ask Hubby when I had surgery......

Is it normal that the Momma hen talks constantly. I don’t think Tassels has been quiet for more than 30 seconds since I let them all out.
She is talking to them not me of course, and they are running around playing tag!

Yes, completely normal! ❤️
