Too much cuteness ❤️

I am just happy those two numbskulls have stopped being broody, they are eating, drinking and moving about.

These broodies drive me crazy, I don’t mind them sitting for a couple weeks, but more than 3 weeks is not good.

Whiskers is doing well on her eggs, I made a quick peek at P3 and it still looks like a dud. I’ll do a proper candling of all the eggs tomorrow night.

So I haven’t seen any guesses for ‘S’ eggs other than Jenn…? Anyone else want to guess?

@SimpleJenn you need to give one guess not 14 😉👍

Split Hens

The Phyllistines split up at roosting time tonight. Nimue roosted in the Cluckle Hut and Niamh on the deck under the kitchen window.

I think Niamh might have been too late going into the Hut and found the door closed. She then made her way to the deck to, not ask for help, but rather to sleep. They were out very late tonight.

I hope you get a great hatch rate on those eggs. I also hope you get what you want. If you do, just know, I will be jealous.

I actually don’t want any of them! I am way over capacity here. If I get a nice Polish pullet like Gucci I will keep her.

But I really can’t take on any others.

But I will drop down for a visit with some ‘luggage’ 😉🤭

I needed fresh air for a bit so I walked outside. Mostly I needed to see for myself that Raven's and the silkie's chicks were ok. Both are doing great. They are each a week old now. I am truly amazed with the silkie's and their co-parenting skills. I never would have dreamed I would have 5 momma's successfully raising 1 chick in harmony. They may not be "real chickens", but they truly are something special.
Glad you felt good enough to step out. Just remember to be extremely careful, even a slight stumble could spell disaster. Which, I'm sure you know! 💗

I am surprised she didn’t kick up a fuss. Bet she won’t be caught outside agai!

Same here... every summer we get one of the juvenile Coopers hawks practicing catching House Sparrows in our yard ~ this morning (around 8:30) the Sparrows screamed their alarm & our Silkie hens scattered for cover so fast I couldn't see/find them for about 15 mins!

On its 2nd attempt the hawk dove under the Pomegranate tree thru the lowest thorny branches where I was pruning the tree. It got a Sparrow from the dozens cowering in the tree while my one Dominique hen clung close to my leg (as if I could keep the hawk away from her!). The hawk flew deftly away w/ it's prize Sparrow & 15 mins later all my hens came out of hiding.

Apparently the hawk has hunted around the trees before since I've been finding tiny Sparrow feathers around the trunks. So far these juvenile hawks seem to prefer flying to catch their prey rather than brawling on the ground w/ an equal size hen. Or maybe the Sparrows are easier to snatch... or maybe Sparrows are tastier than chicken?

Our chicken yard Pomegranate trees are thick but it doesn't seem to keep the Sparrows safe from hawks.....

Sad for the sparrow, but so glad it wasn't one of your flock.
