Fluffy Butt Friday

A couple of golden baby butts

Tonight they are going to be moved into Lulu’s stall. They are doing well, I will keep them on the Tylosin for a full 10 days, the Sulphatrim I will do for 7 days.

But they are both breathing well, and have full crops. Now they need to get some exercise and learn how to be a normal chickie. Next weekend as long as they remain on the right track for staying well I will start introducing them to the gang. I will need to think about which group I put them with. I am leaning towards Mr P’s gang since all those girls are fairly quiet and not confrontational like some others in the main gang.
Polish like Silkies are skittish as juvies... so the gentler the flock group introduction the better JMO 💕 .

It took about 3 yrs for our hyper/skittish Ginny to finally calm down a bit. But if broodiness is involved... then all bets are off again!

Last night's camera door check & head count on the Little's coop. Saw a weird bulge of feathers, or another body (lower left), as if someone was sleeping under somebody else. Couldn't account for it on my tiny phone until I zoomed in!

Crop support! They do like to "belly up" on to the ledge; seen three of them like that at times. It is a square corner, but I can add more hemp to make it more of a slope up to it. Unless they prefer it like this? Any of you notice this kind of thing? I've seen similar in the other coop's nest box front edges, crop right up to or on it, feathers laid over.

Try it... see what happens. Cooler nights maybe it's warmth they're looking for. Our old Dominique Dana sleeps on a perch leaning against the window of the coop... for balance so she doesn't fall or... ? She's the only standard chicken on a perch... the 5 Silkies huddle in nestboxes or dogpile in really cold weather.

In the great blueberry wars of 2025, there are few losers but one clear victor. Unfortunately he has very bad manners!
Mr. Chips will take blueberries from my hand without hesitation. He will also take them from Tassels. That is OK, both of us are happy for him to have them.
However, he will also snatch them out of the beaks of any other chicken that scores a blueberry. This earned him lots of blueberries as well as some bad tempered pecks from Calypso.
Mr. Chips may be a boy, but he is certainly no gentleman!
I hope this doesn't bode ill for what is to come.

Sounds like a typical growing human teenager boy!

It’s a nice soft place to rest one’s head 😉

I have a few ‘well endowed’ ladies who do this.

They'll teach him, but likely not until Tassels is done...otherwise Mama's Wrath is an issue

Yes indeed. And that is why I called them the great blueberry wars.
Mr. Chips grabs blueberry out of Calypso's beak --> Calypso pecks Mr. Chips --> Mr. Chips squeals like he is being murdered --> Tassels beats the crap out of Calypso for hurting her special boy.
Rinse and repeat!

All of the chicks here have had a pretty much free pass from the adults where stealing food is concerned. The older they get though the less it is tolerated.

The silkie babies are hilarious, the march up and just eat with the others, stepping all over the food in the process, no one pecks them - yet! In another few weeks as they get bigger and older though the others will all start to educate them on their place in society.

As for the Noirans, I noticed last night that some of the others have started to peck them for stealing food. But it’s half hearted pecks, the chicks squawk and the adults back off. Chick steals food and runs away hahahahaha - smart chicks!
