Hmmm. After the latest battle in the great Blueberry wars I see that winning is a lot about technique.
While Mr. Chips was once again the clear victor (I honestly cannot imagine him ever giving up food to the ladies!), both Calypso and Cookie did rather well.
Calypso is the only one who swallows whole regardless of size of blueberry (and there were some huge ones!), and this means she is able to consume more per minute than anyone else.
Cookie uses a different approach - she hangs back and swoops in when any other hen puts their blueberry down in the ground.
I need to go buy more blueberries.

Considering the fridge and the age of the eggs, each one that hatches is a blessing....and much treasured.

More the semen from the Roo which was old, we figured 3 weeks at least from when he died - the eggs were that day laid when put in the bator - at least 2 of the ones I candled from the fridge, had chicks though!!!

I will need to ask them which ones where which when they hatch.

So happy for them.

Thank you! Here are some photos of my flock and also my two cats when they are not hunting. They are so ferocious on the hunt but when they’re home they are two big babies that literally can’t live without cuddles! I sadly don’t currently have baby chicks! So here’s my cream legbar hen and cockerel and my legish I call her (she’s a white leghorn x silver laced polish bantam) when they were chicks. (She’s the one on the swing.)

Oh my they are lovely! I love your legish 🥰 topknots are all the style these days 😉

My chooks are molting everywhere.
Feathers are flying. Rock feathers, Wyandotteys feathers are everywhere. I started a (no tail, but it’ll grow back) club. I have been spending a fortune on feather fixer, game hen high protein feed, and laying hen feed.
I feel bad for CeeCee. She lost her tail her face looks kinda worn out.
I do not know what I will do with that neighbors hen that keeps popping out so many game birds, that come over to eat my bird feed. :th

One has eight babies, and nacho only had one before giving up. :(

Sorry. Something stopped me from posting this picture and found it as I came back in
I have an old wooden box like yours. I use it as a large stand alone nestbox.

2 years ago it was in use as a mini-coop for two tiny bantams who where not welcome to roost with the older hens.

Tassels and Mr. Chips. Never more than a few inches away from each other.

Leaving Cookie and Bucky to explore. I have no idea where Geronimo has gone - somewhere up in the branches.

Thinking back, before PITA decided she was done, the 5 boys were on rotation as to which was hanging closest to mom. The others were first to the roos for the tidbit calls. Mr Chips is learning what mama Tassels says is extra good food. Good. Should give him a bit of a leg up when it comes to courtship later.
