More Developments Post Nimue

Nimue went to roost in the Cluckle Hut every night. Every night Niamh would try and convince her to sleep outside but would concede and join her on the roost.

With Nimue gone now, Niamh is roosting outside every night. The old birch tree stump is her location of choice.

So every night I have to move her to the Hut. It's nice to interact with her but it surely takes remembering. I hope they will all roost inside when they are joined together but my bet is this is going to become a real thing with multiple outside roosting hens.

Poor Twister is not doing so well. She has had a sour crop, and hasn’t been eating I have been trying to entice her to eat. I started her on Fluconazole but it doesn’t seem to be working.

Last night she did eat some of the pear I gave her. And I also gave her some soy milk with honey. She pretty much refuses to eat.

I have been trying to find a catheter so I can tube feed her with no such luck. I have asked my horse Vet if he can get any in for me. When I called my small animal Vet they said bring her in to be seen. I declined stating my last chicken I took there cost me $700 and I really was attached to eating and paying my VISA off.

If it were a case of spending 50 to 100$ I would say sure. But no way am I going down the road of paying a big Vet bill again. It’s ridiculous what Veterinarians charge these days!

Anywhoooo I have been syringe feeding her with an insulin syringe which is small enough I can get it down her esophagus - but at 1ml I have to tube her too much to get any food into her. Not an option really for any good.

Hopefully my Vet can get me a couple soon.

Gosh she is so determined!

Can you lock her up early before she normally would roost? It might take a week or two for her to get the routine, but I have found that if I physically make them do something that in about a week to 2 weeks they have it into their system that they need to do it.

I could likely make the wall sitters go into the hen house if I spent time out there and put them in early. And I am about at that point now. Last night I was so frustrated with them, and trying to treat Twister.

Tonight I am thinking about forcing them to ‘go to bed’ early. Lock them in n the Hen House. I’ll let you know how long it takes for them to break me…. 🤨

We had chickens that would stay out really late, and in the summer when I used to shut them in I got fed up waiting for em! Used a stick and herded in them for a couple days they got used to it, now they all go to bed way earlier at a nice time. Now all I have to do is bang a stick on the floor or a rope and they all start running in!

Let me ask Mrs BY Bob where we got ours that I have on hand just in case. I'm guessing a physician friend may have been involved.

I got mine on Amazon.

Don’t ask me about what it is supposed to be for - I have no idea what it even means.
