Well what are your "holding" habits now? I thought you basically do not handle anyone most of the time? You might try having Tassels and her brood with you and around you, with you on the same surface as they are - ground, floor or bed, etc., so that the little ones walk closely around you, up on your legs and hands. You can have these sessions each day and touch each chicken briefly and gradually go longer, maybe?
Again... I have no roo or Mama hen experience ... because of that I would proceed w/ caution wearing a pair of safety 👓 glasses/goggles not knowing what a bird will do. Ponypoor says the rascals love to curiously target eyeballs.

Sadly, I must report when I went to close the coop, Nacho was out in the yard in a panic. Her little one was nowhere to be found. No trace of chick feathers, or blood trails. Just a very sad mama, crying for her child. :idunno
Oh lord. Poor momma. 😢

How could you stand it. It must have been heart wrenching. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

I know what you mean. I have cat litter buckets to block the sides of the second rat proof feeder but too much hilarity has been had tipping over the buckets.
Cookie fell into the bucket and helicoptered out.
I think she sees fine with her poof - she wears it in a sort of ‘up swoop’ which helps. But do worry about it as I have never had a really crested chicken before - only the Legbars who really just wear fascinators.
Does it look like she needs a trim to you guys?

Probably not. I can see her eye. Just watch her forward vision. Look her dead on and if you can see her eyes she is fine. That was most of Tilly's problem. Her straight ahead vision was blocked.

But do you hand tame the roosters? It is our relationship with our roosters-to-be that @ChicoryBlue and I are worrying about.
No, I don't hand tame any. I was saying chickens as a group name instead of hens and roosters.
Sorry, a bit out of sorts due to an allergic reaction today.

Oh! Hubby texted me this, Delft has her bubbies in the ivory coop.

I'm at an archery class and will catch up later. 💚💚

I would say that if they are used to being handled they will be friendly towards people (like Mr LC), but if they are not people oriented they would be more stand-offiish like Mr P is. He doesn’t come around me much but he also isn’t people aggressive. He watches were I am but that’s it, if I move towards him he moves away.

I have worked hard to get him used to being handled though, it really helps if they are not stressed when handling them, esp when they are ill.

I would trim it around her eye so she can see better. As a youngster this is when they learn everything important, having clear vision to help learn is very important I feel.

This weekend the Bobsy Twins become biker babes with new hair doos! They are starting to have issues seeing.

It is very sad. She’s all alone, and the other chickens don’t let her be part of the group. I have been paying attention to her, and she stays near me.

A "B" name came to me...Beula / Beulah.

Another one is my great-grandmother's name Bertha, she was French-Canadian and it was pronounced more like Bair-ta (I think).
Bair-ta... love it... very pretty pronunciation. One of my grandmothers was Na-dzesh'da (Nadine) which colloquially was Nad'sia. My other was Dunya (Doo'nya) (Julia). My Mom was Vetta (Vera). All very Russiany.

I try giving our birds different vowel sounds in their names:

Dana ~ long A short a
Suzu ~ double u (oo-oo)
Ginny ~ short i long Y(EE)
Mika ~ long I(EE) short a
Keiko ~ long EI(A) long O
Betta ~ short e(eh) & short a

Ginny & Suzu are Silkies - Dana is a Dominique
