Bair-ta... love it... very pretty pronunciation. One of my grandmothers was Na-dzesh'da (Nadine) which colloquially was Nad'sia. My other was Dunya (Doo'nya) (Julia). My Mom was Vetta (Vera). All very Russiany.

I try giving our birds different vowel sounds in their names:

Dana ~ long A short a
Suzu ~ double u (oo-oo)
Ginny ~ short i long Y(EE)
Mika ~ long I(EE) short a
Keiko ~ long EI(A) long O
Betta ~ short e(eh) & short a

Ginny & Suzu are Silkies - Dana is a Dominique

You know, I sent a letter to the Kremlin in Moscow. I asked kindly if they would add some vowels to the language. No response. :idunno

Thanks!
I don’t think it has to be a B name. I quite like Beulah, but no disrespect to your great grandmother but the name Bertha always makes me think of Big Bertha - the WWI Howitzer!
I tried many red-associated names on her but they all tend to be feisty characters and she strikes me as more calm and reflective.
Red is not really a calm reflective color.

There is something wrong with either your chickens or mine. A whole head of cabbage lasts at most an afternoon around here!
I think mine are Class A gluttons (and it isn't just Piglet).
One of the traits I have seen in my group is that they do not strip anything in the first visit. They always seem to leave some for later

So refined! Just like Mammy telling Scarlett O’Hara that you can always tell a lady by the way she eats in front of folks (like a bird not like a field hand). Mine may live in a Palace but they eat like field hands!
Scarlett O’Hara - now there’s a name for a red chicken.

Normalizing Relations

It looks like Tilly and the cat may have reached an understanding.

Many female cats adopt or nurse other baby animals. squirrels, ducklings, chicks, even babies as big as a fawn! So it doesn't surprise me to see Eowyn's kitty instinct to adopt chickens as her own property. I love đź’• cats for so many reasons.

I have a roo named “Rooster Cogburn” so why not Scarlett O’Hara? :idunno

They're all getting used to each other. She pounces on/at anything that moves (moulted feathers, Castor's tail, Sherlock's ball, fallen leaves, dust motes....). When she moves, the chickens alert....and so it goes...in circles...
I'm glad they can live together in peace.
