Only Sadness

Joy passed away this morning in my arms. She was not even 6 months old.

In tribute, here is a video of her eating from my hand for the first time only 3 weeks ago.

I don’t know what to say Bob, it’s not fair, what you’re going through!
:idunno:(:hugs

I also have a big door and a little door (side by side) and I use the little door to keep some heat in.
I open the people door to go in and do feed and water but close it behind me and leave the little door open so they can come and go.
Also on a day like today I think it significantly reduces the wind blowing inside.
I am even trying to think of ways to reduce the draft through the little door but haven’t come up with anything quite yet.
Strips of something - stiffer plastic or a heavier cloth? Start with just one strip to get them used to it....and gradually add a strip to the other side....slowly closing off the pop door with them...until they get used to it?????

Or, maybe make a removable strip...and tack up the center strip temporarily until they get used to it. that way, in the summer, you can easily remove it when you want all the draft you can get???

You have read my mind!
I am focusing on vertical space and places for small pullets to hide from Mr. Chips as he becomes a hormonal idiot.
Wind blocking is next. But the vertical spaces will add a new priority which is closing off the top of the wall into the servant’s quarters (no chickens allowed).
Babs and Eli broke into there - once a chicken is at rafter height it is easy to get in and the vertical spaces will make it easier to get that high. Geronimo I think could probably do it quite easily.

Ummm....who's Mr Spock (in the video)? Birds with white in feathers: Primula and Belladonna (head), Daisy, Violet, Hyacinth, Mera, PITA, Tundra, Arabel, Hawthorne, and Jax.
The cockerel with the white wing feathers. Love him ♥️

Mr. Mouse (not rat) is quite annoyed about the rat-proof feeder.
