I've been thinking - I think part of our problem in raising chickens in our backyards is that almost all of us have zero experience with chickens from growing up. I've had dogs my whole life and have very few problems with them. My husband's only experience is chasing his grandmother's unnamed hens on her farm and watching her kill them and prepare them for dinner. These are not helpful experiences for me.
I love this picture!
I raised chickens growing up. I can't tell you the cat number of mistakes I have made raising pet chickens. It helped some but not as much a one might think.

We too did a prefab to start with. We were unprepared when winter arrived. Etc.

It's one of the reasons I'm on BYC, to try help others avoid my mistakes and create community knowledge so it's not lost.

Betty and Jaffarra’s crops were down again this morning. Jaffarra’s did have something in her crop but just a small amt. Betty had nothing at all.

I am so happy, I want those two to started gaining weight now.

Eli is next up
Awesome! Some good news!

Yup let the fight their own battles. Though I have to say in the mornings I usually give Mr LC some screaming at he is so bad in the morning! All eggcited and chasing and biting the poor girls, it’s the ones moulting whom I ensure don’t get assaulted by him. This morning I picked him up and walked around with him so he could see his ladies from up high - he likes that and will settle perched on my hand as we walk around and inspect his troops 😉 once he has seen everyone I put him down and he goes and eats.

What spoiled little turnip hahaha
Sure that’s not General LC? Inspecting his troops? :gig
