Not sure about that... sometimes I cannot even tolerate someone's perfume/cologne bath standing in line at the grocers

I like that our Silkies & Dominiques didn't have odorous feathers. Tight feather breeds like white Leghorn seemed a bit more odorous than our Silkies & Doms.

I have no smellies in my tribe. Everyone a dainty flower scent!

Some pics from today. I'm definitely nervous since it was around this time last year I lost everybirdy. So I'm almost scared to spend too much time out with the birds...

Desensitization training. We can't have them attacking this coat when kiddo wears it, but it's definitely something Owl dislikes.

Poor Buffy. She's looked like this for weeks now. I've never had an elderly or molting hen, is that normal?

No video, but I actually caught Mortimer crowing. He's almost as high a tone as Cheetah is. Still waiting on the other 2.

There is learning occurring with our resident house chicken.

Niamh was in the house yesterday and Enzo always likes to get a sniff of her tail. Normally, Niamh doesn't care.

Yesterday, she did.

Enzo sniffed her and Nuamh wheeled around. Enzo took a step back. Niamh lowered her head and flared her hackles.

I warmed Enzo to back off. Does he listen?

Nope. He leans in for a sniff of her beak.

Niamh attacks. Into the air, claws coming at Enzo.

Enzo was on the dining room floor and spun out before he was able to get traction and get away but escape successfully he did.

Niamh went over and tossed some cat food out of their bowls into the floor and then went back to her snack.

Enzo did not try to sniff her this morning.

Gosh I am so glad I wasn’t still eating my soup - snorting a noodle down the windpipe is not good

Poor Enzo! Just like poor Missy.

I raised chickens growing up. I can't tell you the cat number of mistakes I have made raising pet chickens. It helped some but not as much a one might think.

We too did a prefab to start with. We were unprepared when winter arrived. Etc.

It's one of the reasons I'm on BYC, to try help others avoid my mistakes and create community knowledge so it's not lost.

Winter is one of the reasons I am so glad my mum made me do a hen house in the barn rather than a complete build outside.

I hate winter to begin with, so being able to do things inside is very handy.

I would still love to have a whole separate chicken house but I am now too old to go that route. I can like with the poopy floors in the barn

Oh he thinks he’s the top dog for sure! But in reality it’s Cash who puts him in his place! She’s a BIG hen! Now she’s the RSM (‘Residential’ sgt major)
