Chicken math got me (but don’t forget... it also includes subtraction!)
I started with 12 EE bantam in May of 2015
I began incubating and letting those EE bantams hatch their own.
I got a trio of Black Tailed Buff Japanese Bantams and a trio of Black Tailed White Japanese Bantams.

By 2017 I’m confident I had almost 100 chickens

Early 2018 I had gotten my numbers down to around 60 chooks.

Later (this year) I decided I wanted a smaller flock so I added a few of my desired breeds and downsized down to 12... until I hatched 4 chicks... so 16 chooks

Soon to happen all over again! :lau
Ah, chicken math. I wish one of my classes was that. Imagine....
Question: "If you buy 3 chicks and hatch 2, how many chickens should your coop hold?" Answer: 25. Three coops that hold 25.:lau:lau

It all depends on your long term plans. Key is no need to make a decision now. If you plan on growing your flock, you can segregate those you want to breed from those you don't. And there's no guarantee that he'll pass on his genetic defect to his offspring. The genetics people out here or maybe Kayla will know how dominant cross beak is or is not. The color genetics folks drive me batty, but awesome.

You asked for pics, here's a sneak preview of what will go on my thread this weekend. Breakfast. Tomorrow they move to a feed trough that's 1.2M long and into their shelters. Hope they don't freeze in these crazy temps, but they've gotten a ton more feathers so it's time. They need grass, bugs, and sunshine. Left are Ross and right are cobb
