I got a shot of Boomer. He was watching Piddles.

He chose to go to the dogs water dish. There are multiple here. He can be such a drama queen.

FNF, I believe critters know when we need them. Little weirdos showing up unexpectedly. :p

:lau How cute. I have not had a cat since about the 90's--2005.
I have 3 indoors. All rescues.

Peanut Butter my 20 lb moose of a cat. He frequently does a Jabba the Hurt impression.

Pipsquweek. She was 4 lbs when found and has clearly fattened up. She spits like a cobra and snorts like a pig. (Damage to her nasal passage)

Awww! Not showing my cats the comfy sleeping spot!
Mine have kitty beds but I know they would want your Peanut Butters snoozy spot.

Long post: So, tomorrow I am meeting a lady to get a Black, a Wheaten and a “pet quality lavender with sun bleaching” Ameraucanas. They are 6 months and laying. While I am very excited and love my birds, I almost feel like I am giving my birds the death sentence, if the Merek’s hunch is true.

Now, I want to make myself feel better. If it was Merek’s, it was probably in my soil the entire time, or something??? The reason those 3 reds started picking on 1, could it have been early Merek’s? When I have another death, I will do a biopsy and know for sure. When I bought my chicks at the Co-op, someone could have petted the chicks and transferred the virus. I know I will never have the answers. But, I am moving on I suppose.

Sassy honey, the mereks can be brought in by wild birds, purchased birds and may have been laying in wait in the soil.
No way to know for sure.
I think it was not entirely certain that it was mereks. Am I right or did I miss something?

Reds tend to be a lot bossier then many other breeds. I won't keep them for that reason.

That's really all you can do. There are certain diseases and illnesses that can come from anywhere. Brought in by wild birds doing a fly by pooping. Carried in on clothes. Dormant in the soil. Could be a toxin that you didn't know was there or a genetic quirk.
I suddenly lost my first 2 boys. I have no idea what happened. They were out and scratching and I went in to do bed check and they were both dead. No marks or broken bones. Just dead. I drove myself crazy researching what it could have been. I still have no idea. I cried like a baby at the loss of two roosters I didn't want. But the crowing grew on me and it was stangely quiet without them. I got more birds and all have been fine. I lost a chick to cocci but no other sudden unexpected deaths.
