How is everyone doing today?

I am getting my incubator in the mail today, from Amazon. And I have at least one broody hen to slip my *teeny tiny Serama eggs* I am getting off a BYC friend under!! So excited! I have never hatched a chicken in my life, and of course I picked the hardest breed to incubate....that said, I am a jump-in-it-with-both-feet kinda girl, and if nothing else, it will be a super cool science experiment!

Oh yay!! I just went to check the status of my incubator and it says "Delivered" and in my mailbox!! Yeehaaa!! Gonna throw on some sweats and get it!

Hahaha, if I get a Silkied one I promise I will name her Sandusky Suzi, lol!! Of course, she will be all cute and girly and blonde.

This incubator (they actually left it outside my door, not in the mailbox) is kinda cheap. The instructions look to be translated from Chinese into English. Here is a funny line from it:

"If the incubator is smoking, or sending abnormal smell, or unusual noise, please cut off the power supply and pull down the power line to stop the fault." Ummmmm, yeah. I'll be calling JCP&L with that one ("sorry guys, my cheap-azz incubator was smoking, and I had to chop down the pole for the power line. My bad.")

It is in Centigrade, not Fahrenheit. And there is this little teeny metal glass and tube thing in a baggie. I have no idea what it is for, as the instructions don't mention it!

My mom's urn just arrived too. It's like Christmas morning here with the deliveries. I feel like Smuv, lol!

The tube thingy is probably for adding water when you need to bump up humidity. 37.5 - 38.0C is where you want the temp. Does it have a fan?

Guess who just bought some banana magnolias!? Way too exited about a bush.

I got a new vacuum yesterday and I'm way too excited about it also, so it could be worse. Does it actually smell like bananas?

It went from 60° yesterday to 30° today. I had soggy dinosaurs on what should be lawn but is more like The Bog of Eternal Stench from Labyrinth. I had to walk in it to collect a very dirty egg. Better drainage is a must in the new place.

Sounds like the ones I had laying behind the food bin. I had one lay her egg on the poop board sometime this morning. I only got 4 eggs yesterday so I figure someone was holding it in and it just popped out.

Why are roosters so onery towards hens that aren't laying? Being a butthole isn't going to make her suddenly in the mood for love. His last frostbitten tip fell off, dosent look bad it's even at least. Kinda reminded me of a bowl cut, just on a rooster.

IDK, but Odin kept going after my poor little molting puffy. He jumped on her and she started screaming. I knocked him away from her and he wasn't happy with me. She's a sad sight. She has exactly 1 tail feather left. Her shoulders are filling in now that no one notices the bare spots. Her head an neck are all pin feathers now.

This will definitely help, did this for the derps since they're too waddly to go up and down the ramp much so i put one ground level. Unfortunately everyone loves it, apparently they're all lazy bums.

Mine fight over the same nest too. I have loads of others, but they all insist they have to use the same one. This am Klaus was trying to lay, but Olive kept trying to climb on top of her and take the nest.. which totally reminds me of my tiny human.

Ok story time for you. About two shots ago I noticed my nurse only drew on one eyebrow that morning, so i nicely tell her thinking she'd like to know. She replied with "i don't draw on my brows." I said , then you've been robbed. I've been getting stabbed since.

Probably would, it's pretty immediate if its going to help or not so it wouldn't hurt to try.

So after that day, are her eyebrows always 'done'? I believe they call it 'filled in' not 'drawn on'. LOL Now I could see if you'd rummaged in your purse for a sharpie why she'd be mad, but it was actually very nice of you to let her know.

I use totes for nest boxes and put one on the floor with the lid with a hole. Sometimes they use it. She want beaded curtains over the nest box I guess.

That's a brilliant idea. I might steal it.

Those Phoenix hens are pretty birds and so are the Buttercups

The pheonix is sooo beautiful, but the whole tail situation would make it difficult to keep here.

Ralphie refers to them as 'Minnesota cushion combs' and I agree with him. Sometimes they heal over so we'll you'd never guess they weren't born that way.

I thought of dubbing, but I'm a wussie and I think I'd rather get frostbite than my fingers chopped off, so I figure they probably do too. Unless of course the frozen parts thaw, in which case the poor bird's face blows up and he looks awful.

Sometimes I think I would like to dub Odin, but I'd have to have someone else do it. Watching him struggle w/ those wattles makes me feel bad for him.

I always thought they would peck at each other’s charm. No? Mine do have a tendency to be little raptors though.


Can you post a picture of a Mable egg next to a quarter or something? I still don’t think Frannie is laying. I’ve always heard their eggs are little but maybe I’m expecting smaller. I get a little egg but I’m pretty sure it’s my Svart cross....

I thought the same thing. After seeing how they reacted to my nail polish I'm certain they'd attack anything sparkly or colorful.

My BC eggs are like adorable ping pong balls in shape. Very round......lol......just like mama!

I had one that was laying almost perfectly round eggs. I think it may have been Jaiden b/c I haven't seen them for a while.

I'm constantly seeing them flying north, then south again. I think they're confused.

@apryl29 The bushes smell more like juicy fruit gum than banana, but the neighbors have one and they don't act like they want me taking cuttings so i just bought my own. Our molting hens are almost even Hobo just lost her last tail feather, rooster just wants to peck her in the head. The eyebrow thing, i had no idea it was called "filled in" I've got caterpillars on steroids so i don't know alot about eyebrows.
