Hey peeps. Gonna be scarce....got in-law obligations and stuff this weekend. :p

The split hatch (incubator/hen) is going well!

I had a bad dream last night where I accidentally broke my 'bator eggs and they hatched into large chicks, after Day 2. I tried to stuff them back into their shells, but they hatched back out again, and then I was freaking out about what to feed them because they were voraciously eating everything and I was worrying about their yolk sacs. MESSED UP!!! :lau

You can't make this stuff up when you are a crazy chicken lady. Little buggers are invading my dreams.....

Oh just wait until you dream they can talk and they're telling you their complaints...yowzers.:gig

Double checked for creepy crawlies today. All good there. But....one of the boys seems to have an issue with his oil gland. I couldn’t get pictures. He wasn’t happy being handled let alone held and examined.
I noticed before he seemed to hold his tail a little different. And it looked like his feathers around where his oil gland is were over oily. So today I grabbed him and looked. It was a little red and I could feel the gland under the nipple part. I squeezed it a little, which he really didn’t like, and dark yellow oil came out. It smelled of strong ode de chicken but not infection.
A search here and I found threads about possible infections/impactions but mostly people who thought it was a growth.
Should I try and express it a little more? Warm compress? I’ll try to get pictures later once he’s gone to roost and everyone can’t see the indignity of it all. I don’t want him to be embarrassed.
