Official Squatch Watchers

Think I fell into the twilight zone. I went to close up and head count—my Leghorn (and oldest girl) is roosting in a nest, a squawk to my left shows the Sanderson Sisters in all odd roosting spots. I then find 1 FBCM next to my B Cochin and finally one of the Swedish Flowers roosting on the trash can! What the tater is going on out there!?!

:gigVariety is the spice of life

Hmmm I happen to have some cbd oil. I wonder how I would dose a chicken???
My 85 lb dog has taken 1.5 dropper full once a day.
(Supposedly) 250 mg/1dropper
I would think a few drops should do it. Try that a few days then add more if she's still all moody.

Good morning everyone hope y'all have a fun filled day:celebrate

Hehe! Human flesh...sounds so ominous.:gigUnrelated but I cannot belive how hard it is to give away roosters! Even to people with crappy ones they don't even like and can't do anything with. Like really, do you like sprinting in with a trash can lid sheild just to feed your chickens THAT much? Cripes I don't get people.
I gave Steve away by listing him in the paper for free. No one wanted Odin b/c he's a jerkface, except one old guy, but I didn't want to give him to the guy b/c he's a jerkface and would feel bad if the guy or his wife got hurt by him.

yeah and they want them to go to a 'good home' .. like it would be a good home any more with a taterhead rooster! and they get upset when you say eat them or that you will take it for food..... then you find out it was a tater from a chick, but it was cute then...wonder what their kids are like LOL
If it's a good rooster, then yeah... a good home. If someone wanted to eat Odin, just don't tell me about it. Seriously.. just lie to me & if I contact you about him tell me he died & spare me the details (or tell me you found him dead one morning).

@apryl29 I agree with bark lice. I looked up more pictures and they sure do fit the bill.

As for the taterhead rooster—I have one and I can’t kill him. I even have someone that will do it for me and turn him into dog food. I feel guilty because he wasn’t always a jerk. (I feel like I must have done something) I’ve tried charging him, ignoring him, standing up to him. Nothing seems to work. I’m wondering if he has brain damage or something. He’ll attack the lid to the waterer. I don’t have to be holding it. I can tak it off and he’ll attack it on the ground. :idunno He so beautiful. He goes through spells of being ok to being a tater. I haven’t figured it out.
Same.. You've described Willie exactly. He's just a jerk lately and I have no idea what's gotten into him. Either the heat, the chicks, or he's just becoming more himself and this is what we have now. Let me know if you find a solution. I think I'm going to try meat bird feed next time I buy. I've stopped buying layer feed b/c of the chicks so maybe the layer feed was keeping them calmer w/ the calcium (probably slowly killing them).

I have a jerk hen!
Come and get her.
She’s the one who tore Dolly’s comb last week.

I’ve been trying to Re-integrate her into the flock. Two days I had her in a portable dog pen next to where they free range and everybody seemed fine. Then I tried her one at a time with each of the other two girls and they were fine. Then I put her in the big open run with the two I’m not worried about and all day they were happy as clams.
Then I tried Letting Rosie back in with the group , while standing RIGHT THERE with a long handled POOL SKIMMER in my HAND,
And dang Rosie jumped her and tried to tear her comb off again! I sent Rosie flying then caught her by a leg and tossed her back in the closed run.
What the hellllllll is causing this aggression!
They have plenty of space, and eat all flock ( higher protein than layer feed)

I’m Really frustrated.
I have a pair like that. They're in the separate run that Odin was in during the summer. They will not stop picking at anyone who's molting. After I stuck Odin in the outside pen when it got nice I had put Olive in Odin's space, until the 2 started going after the Survivors too. So I swapped Olive for the 2 cannibals. It's been better now that they're separated, though I know they don't like it. They can't roost up high b/c the space is only 2' tall, but at this point they should be grateful they have an inside at all.

You're fine, you're a chick with a slightly imperfect rooster you don't have a bunch of kids. The people i'm dealing with are "hobby farmers" with butt tons of kids that they're trying to teach about "country livin" not my words I SWEAR! Letting little Billy get spurred because mom got too attached to Extra Crispy is not cool. Again not me, poor bird is named Extra Crispy it has to be an omen.:gig
Yeah... I've locked up Odin and I don't let him out when my kids are there. It's actually been a while since I've let him out. Willie I do let out, but he's more annoying than a threat. I couldn't imagine allowing a rooster to attack my kids. Like would you let your dog maul your kid? It's about the same thing.

yesterday We had storms all afternoon so I wasn't out with the birds as much...
I went out between storms and about 6:30 pm one of the june 3rd poults was missing. Couldn't hear it calling and didn't find it anywhere in the yard. walked the fence, looked at the fence. until the lighting forced me inside.. it didn't show up this morning either. Not sure what happened, weather wasn't to the hawks liking, amd they do find inventive was to commit suicide...The one that had been sick for weeks , same hatch, was dead this morning. :hitSo I lost 2 from this hatch

Went out at 8 ish and it was raining and dark from the storms so the bird had gone to roost early.. locked up 3 of the coops and the last coop should have had 2 chickens and five 8wk poults.. NO POULTS.. sure enough they were in the rain sitting on the fence between pens. :he I got 3 in and 2 ran off in the pen. Came back with a flashlight and couldn't find a white one and couldn't catch the brown one.:hitLighting hit the high power lines next to my property so I figured they were on their own...At dawn the brown one was at the door to a different coop:weeand the white one showed up about 6 am :wee

about 2 hour ago got an alert that storm was coming ... so I ran out and a poult, from the same hatch as the missing one, was on the wrong side of the electric fence... I turned off the fence and caught him.. I wonder if thats what happened to the missing poult? The fence was on and on the inside is netting so they can't touch the fence.. but if it got shocked it may have run off and gotten lost.. :he
storms started again.:barnie

so I am glad I hatched so many. I have lost 2 to illness and 1 is a mystery. 15 left and I probably will lose a few more... Have to expect losses when they aren't confined.
Wow. I hope you find the missing bird. Maybe she's just hiding from the storm. I think I'm in OH so I think the storms we got last night are the ones you had earlier in the day. I wonder if that means we'll get more here throughout the day. I'm ok w/ it... I awoke to a beautiful 65* non humid morning. It is amazing. I feels a bit like fall right now.

Babies are outgrowing Mom! She still wants to sit on them. LOL
Awww. I'll bring my 4 over. They've been abandoned by Loki... I think it's my fault actually... since we weren't home and I didn't get the run finished before we left she didn't get a chance to chicken around w/ them so she got tired of being confined & barely acknowledges them now.

No idea, last year when Marlene was set on scalping everybody I spiked her water with beer like 75% water 25% beer. Made her much nicer, I do the beer thing to hormonal roos but I was at a loss with her so I just tried it. Might be miller time for Rosie.;)
This is a thing?! I'm going to try it w/ Odin. Maybe it'll calm his butt down.. if nothing else it'll make him more compliant when I have my co-worker's husband take care of him.

Yesterday evening it started raining while the birds were out ranging. I put everyone in and they went out into the run until it started to rain more. Naturally, the babies huddled in the corner instead of going inside. I tried to scare them into going inside, but they just ran to the middle of the run. I worried all night long that they didn't go inside so I stopped over this morning. I was happy to see that all 4 of them were sitting in their little cage (I put the dog cage back in the coop so they could have a safe place get away from the big birds (and Willie) since they keep pecking at the babies. I was worried I'd find 4 drowned chicklets in the run. They *can* get up to the roost (at least 1 of them can), but Loki pecked at the one that tried to roost with her. There's plenty of roost space where they *could* roost alone, but if they want to huddle together in the cage for now, so be it.

Question... do I really need to keep the chicklets on starter/ grower feed until 8 weeks? Is there really any benefit to that over the meatbird or flock raiser feed? I know they can't have layer feed until they actually start laying. I didn't get layer feed the last time I bought some b/c I knew the babies would be out w everyone else soon though I'm certain they're eating some off the floor. It was a mix of feather fixer pellets and I think flock raiser crumbles.. should I feed everyone the chick starter/ grower?
