Hey, I have a question for you guys, I was wondering this before. How many chickens do each of you have? I am at 16, total, now, 13 girls and three boys. I can't go any higher than that, so I won't add until some start dying off. But I love my mixed flock! I think they are the perfect blend of everything (OK, most everything, lol) that I want.

Um....I’m at 24. :oops: 7 of those are chicks and 3 more are still holding onto their first egg. 2 roosters too so with chicken math that’s 5. Yeah 5 chickens.

I'm going to try my darnedest. I'm getting ready to post a Craigslist add right now and I have about 20 cockerels that have tickets to freezer camp.

Umm, when I did the chicken math for that, I came up with 12, not 5! I want to know what is your mathematical formula?

Cuz, like, 7+3+2=12. 24-12=12, right? ;)

That shouldn't be too hard. I'm going to cull/sell all my 2 year old hens in the fall and I have 27 Cornish chicks (+8 eggs in the incubator) that I'll whittle down to 8 before winter (2 cockerels, 6 hens).
 
I started at 6.
Which was 1 over my county law.
Then one died.
Then I rehomed Dory.
I only have 4 left.

Gonna be 3 if Rosie doesn’t knock off being mean to Dolly.

She’s still separated. And not happy about it.


I tried to let all of them free range together yesterday and it went ok for about 10 minutes then all of a sudden she remembered that she wants to tear Dolly’s head off and I had to run like hell and catch her by the tail.

beer for breakfast again this morning.

Hollowed our the butt end of a watermelon and poured some in. Let it soak for a while.

After the first day She kept kicking over the beer /water mixture. I think she didn’t like the brand.

Hmmmmm. Kinda like sangria if you think about it....;)

I didn’t count the chicks. So that’s 24-7=17. 3 non laying girls cancel out 3 laying girls so down to 11 chickens.
Each Roo is -2 and another -2 for my sweet little Bantam Cochin...
11-6=5
