Hi honey! Good morning everyone:frow
Can’t wait to hear how Chad and the chickens get along!

Thanks all for the birthday wishes for DD. I think she enjoyed the day.

DH feeling better but still not great.

His dad is back in the hospital. He’s sliding down the slippery slope fast. -he was punted back from the rehab facility, where he doesn’t belong , and where he’s been receiving very poor care.

It wasn’t realistic of DH’s siblings to push for him to go in that direction. :he
He really and truly needs to be in a nursing home, or in a perfect world, in his home with caregivers
and an attentive family. :hmm

Edited for clarification:
The family was so adamant that the end goal was for him go into an assisted living facility rather than “a nasty nursing home”.
That is why he went from hospital to rehab where he has to meet progress markers in order to stay there and move on to assisted living.
He’s met none of the goals.

Has been there less than two weeks and has fallen on six different days(or nights). He’s disoriented and combative. Staff keeps him in a geri-chair almost all the time because he can’t be left in bed unattended.
He lives in a state that forbids the use of patient restraints.
:hugs

I have a grater attachment on my kitchenaid that works well--and is finger safe.

We have had a lot of smoke here and ash quite a bit. I have a particle mask now for bad days
Wow, you're out of the danger zone, right? Looking at the fire map, your are seems to be a ways away from the closest fire, correct?

The black one is stunning in light. I can’t capture the colors in pictures. All over purples and blues and greens.
Our old neighbors had one like that when the kids were little.. They called her Wild. There must be some kind if trick to chicken photography b/c I see amazing photos of birds and mine end up looking like they're teleporting.

We had skunk stink at 1am. The little nasty goober hung around until 3 am.

:sick

:wootno SLEEP.
We have one that goes off at least once a week near us. It sucks b/c it doesn't hit you until it's too late. I've awaken for dead sleep b/c I smelled it and then have to close windows in a stupor. If I open the living room window I always leave mine open too, b/c of skunks.

I took this as a virtual shot. Not sure if it will upload that way or not.

eta: nope. lol
I've gotten those before too.

If I remember right, this chart is hard to see but hopefully it helps.

Ugh... I get some of those on a regular basis. Thanks for the chart! I think over crowding is an issue, esp since I have the babies. Still no takers on the 2 boys. It says nutrition is the cause for some of them, but I give them feed and oyster shell.. I have one that rarely lays, she's a partridge rock & I'm not overly concerned. The shell is always thin when she does lay, but always has been and no one else has a problem, so I think she's just more of a meat bird than an egg bird.

It's so sad when people don't really consider someone's actual needs over their own feelings. My uncle had parkinson's and his wife kept him at home as long as she could, but he was getting violent and kept trying to take off with the car. She eventually put him in a nursing home. Thankfully the people were great there. Sadly that's not always the case. I kinda understand where his fam is coming from, but it's their job to do the research, got check out the places, ask questions, then visit him to make sure things are ok... but if they're not willing to do the work to find him a place to live then they need to find him an in home care giver who can be w/ him 24/7 b/c if he's falling there then he's going to fall at home.
Maybe they would consider a hospice place.. though that's truly and end of life/ comfort situation and if he's not there yet then they may not accept him.

Yes, we are out of the fire danger zones. We are getting smoke from two fires now. The closest fire is about 40 miles north in Clearlake. That fire is the biggest in State history.

:he@staceyj :hugsIt’s never easy dealing with the decline of a loved one. Even harder when not everyone agrees. It does sound like a nursing home is safest for him. I know when my Grandfather was failing he had to go back and forth from hospital to rehab and back again to get approval from Medicare to be in a nursing home. He could be in the hospital a certain amount of days and then they would stop paying. He then had to go to a rehab facility for a few days until they said he needed to go back to the hospital.
