The weirdest thing happened yesterday. I had to go to one of our branches to replace a piece of equipment that failed. That happens.. but when I get there in our server area is a cable modem and wireless access point that doesn't belong to us, and no one knows where it came from. We asked the people who work there and none of them remember anyone coming to put it in. We have no idea how long it's been there, but it wasn't there in January. So either their former branch manager who left in May forgot to tell anyone, or someone from the township came in while we were closed and had it installed. Even our director doesn't know anything about it. I've never had equipment magically appear. And they took it upon themselves to plug their stuff into our UPS (battery back-up) w/o asking.
If only someone would leave us a big bag of $$ instead.

I checked w/ the finance lady and our bill is the same. We have our own, so whatever it is, someone else is getting a bill for it.

Wow. That's horrible. Reminds me of kids getting their legs broken from parents holding their kids when they go down a slide and their legs getting caught. I remember doing that w/ my kids when they were little (but stopped b/c my butt was too big for the slide). I usually just laid the kid on the slid and slid them down 1/2 way.

No, it's completely separate, except the coax cable that comes in through the wall is split then a separate wire goes to each box. We have our own cable modem & static IP address and our network wire to the firewall is the only thing plugged into it (besides the coax cable). The mystery equipment is an Arris cable modem and a Ruckus access point that's connected via POE, which is stupid b/c they're literally right next to each other... so no need for the poe. It doesn't make sense at all. The only explanation is the township had it installed, but why? The library is super tiny. It's not like there's a space the township people use, and there's 2 other township owned buildings next to the library.. why not have it installed there? Surely they'd get a better signal there than from another building. I've never heard that they charge for installation, so that shouldn't be why.

I've never noticed anything like that before, but I never really watched them breathe all that much.
