I really enjoy the ones I grow. Unfortunately all my meaties are growing slow this year, I think with this wacky weather they're focusing on feathers rather than meat. So I may have to give them a bit longer to grow out to size. And I can't get any non-GMO corn. Can't bring myself to spend $40 shipping for a $6 bag of corn.

I am starting to think that being the only layer really goes to a pullet’s head. My former wall flower Peep now thinks she is hot taters! Ran her sister and formerly-naked Amelia away from the treats yesterday :barnie
Well isnt she something......my Ameraucana hasn't starting laying yet but boy is she a taterhole...

She has started chasing a couple of my bantams and its ticking me off

Holy Crap Porcelain D’uccles can fly! I seriously think they were mixed with pigeons at some point. Little nervous but as soon as you hold them calm as can be. And seriously she flew. Did a lap overhead in the garage.

(Yes they are all still in my garage.)
Hoping to move everyone Sunday when we get a high of 48*!

I hear ya.....my D'ucclle has flown across the yard several times. She doesn't fly high but she can fly quite a distance
This is my D'ucclle Pearl. She is finally growing new tail feathers after a rough molt

Hi guys! Just popping in for a quick sec, cuz...

I started my new job!!! :wee As many of you know, I've been subbing for the past 8 months (HAS IT BEEN THAT LONG ALREADY?! Time flies, for real) and trying to find full-time employment.

I just finished my second day. It's in a nice little middle school about 40-45 minutes from where I live. The nurse there is retiring after 30 years (longevity--good sign) and everyone is very nice and really seems to like me! And I like them! And it is not a toxic environment like my last job. I think I am going to be very happy there. :D

Getting up at 5 is a challenge, lol, but I've done it before and can do it again. I'm a little tired, but your body gets used to the sleep/time change after a couple weeks. Gotta host TG so it's a little bit of a stressful week. So I won't be around much for awhile....you guys are my second family and I miss you! I may not be on that much but I do read and keep up with your lives. I hope you all are well.

Gotta go check on the chooks, bake a pumpkin pie, do a million other things. Lotsa love and I will talk to you soon! Stay safe, everyone~ I'll see you before TG~

Much love :love and :hugs !!!!!

So happy the new job is going well & the people are nice.

Well my vacuum is dead, no bringing it back the motor froze up and she's gone. Don't know what has gotten into Rene, now she runs everybody and has to buck up to all her sisters before bed. I swear she's as hyper as Ethel is now, only she has been hyper from the start. I dread telling hubs the vacuum is dead, he's going to swear I killed it on purpose. If that was true it would have died long ago.:)
I destroyed my last one w/ hair. It got built up in the gear early on. I scraped it out after it literally melted and locked it up (burned through 2 belts before I figured it out- oops!)... then it worked for several more years, but then finally died early this year. You can get a decent one for under $100. Mine was $50 and I love it, but I wish I'd spent a bit more for the one level up model.

It should be working by now. All i have noticed is that my neck now hurts right at the level of my shoulders.
Are you thinking it's not the bursitis(sp)? Maybe a muscle relaxer will help. That's how my neck gets. My shoulder is messed up, but it causes a muscle to tighten and it pulls on my neck.

Olive was acting like that when she'd already molted and everyone else was still going through it, but now that some of them are done she's back to normal.

Morning all. Lowes delivery was just here delivering my clear roof panels for my new chicken run. So glad I didn't have to wait around all day!
Wow, you def won the lottery today! And we're supposed to have nice weather for about 45 seconds this weekend so you might be able to put them up w/o freezing to death!

It's sad that we get so excited about a high of 48.. did you see next week though.. I really hope they're wrong. I already miss having warm feet.

I am in the same boat.. feed issues, slow growing birds and wacky weather.
None of the white cx mix cockerels look like breeder material for next year. One had the size but he dislocated a toe at the palm, so he went to freezer camp...I think he was over 6lbs dressed at 16 wks
I do have 2 barred cx mix that were bigger than the whites from their hatch. One from last thanksgiving and one from spring, living in the 8x8 bachelor pad. Looks like they will get a chance to show their stuff next spring.
Added 4 blk/red cockerels from 2 different pens to the pad last sat. Hope to process those 4 this weekend. They will be 16 wks on the 28th, which is my target age, but fri/sat look like the last warm days.:gig 47f
When I went to move the 4, I couldn't find one of them.. found him with mommy hiding in the old dog house... 14wks is a little old to be under mama's wing. The other 6 from that hatch were on there own long ago.
The rest of the cockerels are whites and I keep hoping someone will miraculously develop into breeder material LOL When I process those 4, I'll move some of the whites.. not sure how many I have, over 10 that age bracket... Been too chilly to sit out there much, and they tend to be hidden out of the wind...when it's feeding time at the zoo they are all over the place... and at night they are hiding from the turkeys and older birds between the wall and old dog houses in the hoop coops...
