Hey guys, quick question. In order to get to my goal of 60 birds before winter, I need to downsize. The problem, my morning sickness is making the thought of slaughtering and eviscerating birds impossible, and I'm really the only one that does those two parts (with help on the "less gross" bits from family. Do any of you know how I would go about finding someone to slaughter them for me? I need 20-30 birds done.
I sometimes see people posting on my local FB poultry group asking for slaughter assistance.
There may also be a professional operation you can drive them to.... lots of places have businesses that will process game, it would just be a question of whether they would do chickens and for how much.

I do have a list of the WV approved custom slaughter/processing operations, I've called a few, but they do cows, pigs, goats, and game. I need to call the others, but I want to get a measurement of how far away they are before calling.

You can also check with APPPA members near you. A lot of them likely process their own, and likely unwilling to take the risk of processing outside birds, but they generally know who will do it. Some may be willing to come to you and process as that doesn't impact their ability to operate under exemption. Another place to look is the featherman website under the rental section. Folks willing to rent are often willing to assist. It's likely that they would come to you as well.

any amish or mennonites near you? one of the few places that does birds near me ( 2 1/2 hrs near lol ) is an amish facility.. but they do 25 birds or more and close down for the winter

So happy the new job is going well & the people are nice.

I destroyed my last one w/ hair. It got built up in the gear early on. I scraped it out after it literally melted and locked it up (burned through 2 belts before I figured it out- oops!)... then it worked for several more years, but then finally died early this year. You can get a decent one for under $100. Mine was $50 and I love it, but I wish I'd spent a bit more for the one level up model.

Are you thinking it's not the bursitis(sp)? Maybe a muscle relaxer will help. That's how my neck gets. My shoulder is messed up, but it causes a muscle to tighten and it pulls on my neck.

Olive was acting like that when she'd already molted and everyone else was still going through it, but now that some of them are done she's back to normal.

Wow, you def won the lottery today! And we're supposed to have nice weather for about 45 seconds this weekend so you might be able to put them up w/o freezing to death!

It's sad that we get so excited about a high of 48.. did you see next week though.. I really hope they're wrong. I already miss having warm feet.
I have been taking muscle relaxers, this may be bursitis but something else is wrong because my thumb is numb and my neck hurts, plus a knot in the muscle. I just know i need to get in to see the Ortho doc so they can figure out what the problem is. It is getting worse instead of better.

I had a guy respond to one of my FB posts asking what equipment I had. So that could be interesting.

I'll look into it, thanks!

No Amish or mennonites unless I cross state lines unfortunately.
I wish I could come help you Rae.

Around here the professional processors wont do chickens. I found a gal out in the country that would do it.
It was expensive at $6 a bird.

I think I found her on Craigslist.

I survived the shopping trip. It took 2 stores to find feed.

Craigslist, I'll try there if all else fails.

Look for a poultry processing place near you. We have one here in Sacramento. The birds are dropped off and a couple of hours later they are ready. There is a minimum but you would meet it. Do a google search for poultry processing

Popping in to say hi!
Gosh it’s been a busy week!

Yay for you @pitbullmomma!
I so tickled about your new job.
Remember all new
things take time to get used to! Just be yourself and smile! I know they are going to love you!

@Redhead Rae, I sincerely hope you get some help or that a family member steps up to take over your duties this time around.
If I were close I’d come.
I’m good at following directions.
