Poor Loki looks like someone's run her through the wringer. I tossed down some scratch last night and she wanted some, but looked unsure about getting down so I picked her up and she yelped. I could feel all her pins in there. Poor thing must be miserable. Jackie's losing piles of feathers too, but Loki is much worse. I think my 4 production birds are molting too b/c they're looking rather sparse in the tail department, but they seem to be holding their feathers longer. Damon is almost feathered & the formerly naked egger is looking good now.
I've been blocking off the back run b/c of the wind since I don't want to be going over every morning to open it. I figure when it's above freezing over night I'd be ok to keep it open so they'll be able to go out for the next few days.
I don't seem to be having any more rat issues. I'm not seeing any new holes being dug. I'm sure I still have some smaller rodents out there though so I'm going to set those traps the next few days.
I got the front of the run tarped so that should keep snow from blowing in across the field. I put a tarp over part of the back run, but now it's holding water so I used a PVC pipe to make a drain for it. It works pretty well, but I should have done it farther over... but I have the dark screen there and I was trying to not have to cut it up. I def need to put a gutter on the back of the coop next spring.

Lots of quick store trips for me this morning. Just a few items each from 4 different stores so hoping I can get in and out quick.

Gotta take the truck since one stop is for feed and shavings. Hitting up Home Depot too for some PVC.

My best fliers were my Hamburg hens. Up and over the 8' tall coop with no take off zone.

Best of luck to you in your endeavor.

Good morning! It was 36 this morning but I swear it felt colder. Hubs actually tried to fix that dead vacuum! He failed of course, too much of that motor is just pressed together so not much that can actually be taken apart "thank goodness". I can't understand for the life of me why he's so determined to save the old clunker. Vacuums die and are replaced, it is the circle of life. It looks like i'm going to be able to dodge all holiday outings this year yay! MIL's people had one no show "not me,nobody cares if I show or not lol!" so the important no show is making nobody want to get together. I will totally take it, even though that is just strange as strange gets.:caf

Hey guys, quick question. In order to get to my goal of 60 birds before winter, I need to downsize. The problem, my morning sickness is making the thought of slaughtering and eviscerating birds impossible, and I'm really the only one that does those two parts (with help on the "less gross" bits from family. Do any of you know how I would go about finding someone to slaughter them for me? I need 20-30 birds done.
