Will you take them to a butcher or do it yourself?
My friend is going to do them himself.
I let him hunt deer on my property in n Illinois, which is 10 minutes from his current house. He gives me venison for letting him hunt. He takes the deer to the butcher most of the time. But sometimes he butchers the deer himself.
I warned him they are lard pigs and now he doesn't want to eat them, just give away the meat. I told him they are good eating.
I will give him some turkey eggs in trade. He asked to buy some for eating, of course that was after she quit laying. I plan on giving them to him anyway. I have 7 hens this year, last year I had a hen. Plenty of eggs for hatching and eating this year. Last year I gave the extra to a byc member to hatch. She gave some poults to another byc member.

When I was in 4-H in the 1970s I saw the beginning of swine being ruined by the fat being demonized in our country. We saw a presentation from UC Ag about how they were reducing fat by something like 20%. We still see this in things like lard pigs being bad.

They are really what pigs are supposed to be and we now pay a premium to get meat from pigs like these.

Do not tell the friend and enjoy them! They will give you some of the best pork ever

Yep when he told me about the pigs and that they weren't tame, I said that they would be good eating. I told him that's what they were developed for... Not pets that people have made them into.
I am excited to get some meat. LOL

I'm coming to the reality that if I do see ham again, I'm going to have to process him rather than taking him to a processor. I figure he's somewhere between 300 & 350 pounds. The longer he roams the property, the less likely it is that I'll be able to lure him back. Which means I need to be prepared to process him. :th
