Thanks, Henny, I konw it happens. It just never happened to me. And I pride myself on having a super tight, secure run/coop situation, but I have an awful feeling I was lax on a head count and maybe let them out yesterday cuz it was a nice day, somehow didn't notice that she wasn't outside, and she got killed because I wasn't paying attention like I should have been.


I'm just really glad it wasn't Flower or one of my black girls or Blueberry or my Brahmas, or Suzi or Fergus or Grumpy. Or Skinny Pete. Not like I have any favorites, mind you.

So sorry.
Is the run covered? Hawk?

PBM, I'm sorry you lost one of your girls, but as the others have said, it happens. Don't beat yourself up about whether you missed her at headcount, just make sure you check for breaches in your run and coop, fix them, and try to make sure everyone is accounted for at the end of the day. You do the best you can, and remember that nobody's perfect, that things happen, and not everything is in your control. I'm glad it wasn't one of your favorites, and I'm also glad she wasn't found inside the run, because then it would have been more than just her.

PBM, I'm sorry you lost one of your girls, but as the others have said, it happens. Don't beat yourself up about whether you missed her at headcount, just make sure you check for beaches in your run and coop, fix them, and try to make sure everyone is accounted for at the end of the day. You do the best you can, and remember that nobody's perfect, that things happen, and not everything is in your control. I'm glad it wasn't one of your favorites, and I'm also glad she wasn't found inside the run, because then it would have been more than just her.

Morning everyone.

Bacon, eggs and hash browns are ready. Sorry the eggs ARE store eggs and all scrambled.


There are donuts, bizmarks and twists in the box to the left of the coffee. Orange juice and milk are in the fridge.
Fruit plate is looking pretty good too.

I'll be downstairs catching up on laundry.

There were 2 people there, a good waiter asks if that's everything before trotting away.

My hubs work takes everyone and their spouses to a buffet lunch to end the year.
Now then, I am a good eater but not one to overdo it.
When I came back to the table the bosses wife glanced at my plate and said "Oh wow!" .
Um seriously there was 90% veggies on my plate and like 2.5 cups of food total.
I was very embarrassed.
It's not like it was a pay for every item kind of lunch and I went top of the price range. It was a freaking buffet.
Now then to be fair she IS a very tiny 70+ year old lady so eats very very little.


Side note.......a year ago I was 70# heavier. I make much healthier food choices these days. I quit sugary drinks and I am very active with the dogs.
Yes I still think of myself as "heavy" but whatever.

Way to often we tend to let other people determine how we feel about ourselves.

I call it "Plus" b/c once my friends and I went shopping. We were looking for pantyhose for my one friend who is a bigger lady. We're digging through the bin for Queen Plus size and my other friend says 'Why do you have to be so plus?' completely oblivious to what she was saying. We all got a good laugh at her faux pas & now it's a running joke. We're not over weight.. we're Plus.

Ok, i'm in an alternate reality gotta be.
Derps turned in early, it started raining fine with me.
I do the normal shuffling and fussing counting heads, eyes and toes. Everyone there and intact then I see what tells me i'm not in Kansas anymore.
Hobo and Negan not on opposite ends of the roost but scrunched up...snuggling.
Wonder if I can fly or read minds in this reality?

It's like little kids when they're quiet, you should worry. They're probably plotting against you. Mine get like that where I'll see 2 together or one on the roost instead of under it and I'm like Whoa, what's going on here? Then other days, like yesterday, everyone is all mean and pecky.

People always talk about their chickens roosting in the same place all the time. Hen A B C in a line the same way every night.
I have 2 that sleep in the same spot...alone. Not with each other but the same spot every night. The rest of them are here there and everywhere.

I have some that WANT a certain spot, but other come alone and push them out of the way. Poor Olive wants to sleep on the roost to the right and will be the first one in there, but then everyone else comes in and she ends up sleeping in the back corner under everyone even though there's plenty of room for everyone.

Hi buds, just got home and I was short a chicken when I went to tuck them in....

And a predator got my EE, Maya. I don't know how she got outside the run. I hope I didn't miss her on a head count, but she was outside the run, dead, in a big pile of feathers. I feel terrible (although she was NOT one of my favorite chickens, and did not ever seem like she liked me much. But still, she was my chicken, and she laid a very pretty green egg, and she did not deserve to die like that.)

That's the first time I ever lost a chicken to a predator. I'm gonna have DH do a good perimeter walk in the AM and shore up any holes. I have a terrible feeling I somehow missed her on a head count, thugh...poor baby.

That's how I lost one of the white ones early on. I'd been in a rush putting them away and didn't count. Now I always count and if I'm not sure I count again. It'd be easier if they'd stand still. It sucks, but it's a learning experience, now you'll always make sure you check for everyone.

Apparently my superpower is pretty lame, BOGO's on stuff I don't really need two of.
I ordered 50 lighters and got 100. I will have fire until I die.
