We're supposed to get freezing drizzle and stuff Friday, heavy snow Sat. into Sunday.
Need to stock up on essentials ( you know what) tomorrow, seriously dropping temps as well.
We get an atmospheric river over night. The burn areas are under mud slide warnings and we have small stream advisories here.

And yes, I did hang around to watch her poop so I could figure out what in the world was going on. Not the first time iv'e done it either, likely won't be the last. :)
before you had chickens ...did you ever think you would be doing that ? :gig

Maybe I can vent here. I killed a quail chick this morning! :hit
My eggs hatched about 18 hours earlier than expected, starting at 5am this morning. They are still hatching - there's nearly 70 eggs in the incubator, of which about half have hatched.
Anyway, I chick looked stuck and the membrane was really rubbery looking. So I decided to help it out. As it was getting out of the egg, I thought the membrane was stuck to the chick so I gently helped remove the half of the shell from it's bottom end. I apparently tore a blood vessel of some sort and it bled quite a bit. I stopped the bleed with a paper towel and light pressure, and then placed the chick back in the incubator. A while later, the chick was laying dead in the incubator. It was bleeding anymore, but I think it just lost too much blood. These little quail chicks don't have much blood as it is. Now I'm extra cautious to help any others.

try moistening the membrane.. they say that they need to kick out to get the leg tendons straighten out.
some people have luck helping, but I never have had any luck...and they didn't bleed either. some just aren't strong enough

That is sad. I am sorry.
Assisted hatches are risky as you know.

You did your best and gave the little goober a chance. A chance it may not have had without help.
:hugs
