To me, given its location, it was an unnoticed abscess.
I hope she continues to flush it with some betadine as it heals from inside.

glad you got a good night's restFeeling even better today. Still coughing and not up to eating normally. I slept really well last night.

My DW has had a bad cold the past several days. Last night was better but the previous night was spent sleeping in the recliner in the living room! Poor thing!Loosing my voice and tired myself out a lot getting the house positioning fixed (DH and my dad did most of the work, I provided the vision) but I was able to get up to my parents for a long bath and was able to eat two slices of buttered toast. Hopefully, I’ll be back to eating normally tomorrow.
I've been thinking about getting a REALLY nice recliner when we get the new house, particularly for sleeping in when sick. Fortunately, I found a way of propping my head a bit that didn't hurt my neck or back, or require me to sleep on my back, which is impossible right now.My DW has had a bad cold the past several days. This chair was from a person that moved to an assisted living place.I've been thinking about getting a REALLY nice recliner when we get the new house, particularly for sleeping in when sick. My parents have a motorized one (that helps stand a person up) that my grandmother bought before she passed. It was intended for her, but was designed for someone much taller. I love it, it is so comfy. I might try to talk them into selling it to me because the motor would make it easier to get up and down with a newborn. This chair was from a person that moved to an assisted living place.
Check second hand places
Yeah, I wouldn't try closing it up b/c it might need to drain or could have more of that stuff in it. It was so weird. Kinda reminded me of a huge blackhead, or bumblefoot, but on the back. I wonder if it had started out as a clogged pore or something similar and just got worse from there. Now I'm thinking I need to go out and inspect all of my chickens to see if they have anything funky going on. like that. I typically don't dig around in their feathers unless there seems to be a problem. To me, given its location, it was an unnoticed abscess.

Interesting! I used to have some plaster of paris... I might try that & the baking soda method... just to see which one they go after.Saw this on FB. There is a store version called BAR. (According to FB)
Equal parts plaster of paris & corn meal, plus JUST enough milk to form it into balls. make them tennis ball size, let harden a day or so. Set out where rats are a problem. They gnaw at them and die from the plaster cementing their intestines shut. No more or less unpleasant a death than other poisons, but safe for the creatures who may eat them after.
