Good to know since that was the one I was looking at.
I just bought an Accu-chek Performa to replace my cheapo relion (which I will keep in my purse for traveling). The strips are fairly inexpensive less than $20 for 100 on amazon. The Performa is rated highly by several diabetic associations.

The materials feel much stronger and more reliable than the relion.

While it would have been nice to have more hatch, it is good to have more than one. One little chick hatched is so lonely!

I had two out of 17 shipped white eggs hatch. I had a pair and the cockerel committed suicide by stupidity. Now I have one pullet.
The do find novel ways to commit suicide :he

another cornish is starting to hatch
but the big moose is "trying" to help.. he also tries to eat the toes of the hatched cornish :barnie

I would love to! It is cold and raining here.

Dealing with doctors and vague answers here today.
Hubs had a standard test relating to his blood pressure meds........stupid person calling him with "results" was laughing on the phone when she told him his glucose reading is 564. Seriously that is NOT funny.
She didn't give him any other numbers. I know that 564 is freaking scary high.
He got ticked since she had no info except that and the stress that created. Not to mention the laughing. So not professional.
She couldn't even tell him if he needed to see his doctor. Seriously. :hmm That reading is 4X what "normal" should be. Telling someone to see their doctor should be an easy answer.
and I worry about 98 when 99 is the top of normal
I would have a heart attack if they told me that
or assume it was way wrong

All the sites I've looked up said 600 is the "go to the hospital NOW" number. I thought that is what I remembered from helping take care of my grandmother (she was a type 1 diabetic).

The 99 is the high number for normal non diabetic at the lab mine goes to... I am sure you are right about the go to hospital number.

99 to about 120 is normal for fasting. if it is over that, then they move to a sugar test to see how sugar is regulated over a period of time. Two hours after eating, blood sugar should be back down to the normal range. If it stays high they will monitor it and often start treating.

The A1C is a better way to tell though.

Good afternoon! @21hens-incharge that stinks how unprofessional people are now! Unfortunately it seems to be the norm.
Does your hubs drink HFCS sodas or the actual sugar? If he can't cold turkey give them up he needs to steer clear of HFCS as much as he can and limit and I mean limit the cane sugar ones.
I can't reccomend anything sugar free and not cringe a bit.:hmm

The College I worked for gives retirees a free blood test in the fall, along with current FT... sometimes additional tests can be bought by retirees... no ins taken... but for free I can't complain what they offer. This started because the faculty USED to get free ins for 5 years after they retired. The INS wanted to catch anything early and recommended it. The rest of us FT grabbed the coattails for the ride. I expect this to end someday.
Last time they did offer the A1C and it was normal... can't remember what it was though :old

Ok....back from errands.

Hubs doc is ordering a redo on the test. Could he still be hyperglycemic? Yup.

I got testing equipment. Hubs said get the cheapest and that if he really needs long term testing he will upgrade later.

What the tater is up with having to contact customer service for the control solution???? :hmm

Yes hubs sodas are HFCS. I think it is ridiculous the number of things that carp is in.

No worries about sugar free stuff. He won't touch any of that. He finds the taste off putting.

Now how to address sweet tea, pie, cake, cookies, and candy.......God forbid I take away his candy.
