Yes!Oh heck yeah. I have to test 4x a day and it is about $10 for 50 strips.
But even paying $30-60 out of pocket up front is a really good idea if he has problems that bad.

I just bought an Accu-chek Performa to replace my cheapo relion (which I will keep in my purse for traveling). The strips are fairly inexpensive less than $20 for 100 on amazon. The Performa is rated highly by several diabetic associations.Good to know since that was the one I was looking at.
While it would have been nice to have more hatch, it is good to have more than one. One little chick hatched is so lonely!
The do find novel ways to commit suicideI had two out of 17 shipped white eggs hatch. I had a pair and the cockerel committed suicide by stupidity. Now I have one pullet.
and I worry about 98 when 99 is the top of normalI would love to! It is cold and raining here.
Dealing with doctors and vague answers here today.
Hubs had a standard test relating to his blood pressure meds........stupid person calling him with "results" was laughing on the phone when she told him his glucose reading is 564. Seriously that is NOT funny.
She didn't give him any other numbers. I know that 564 is freaking scary high.
He got ticked since she had no info except that and the stress that created. Not to mention the laughing. So not professional.
She couldn't even tell him if he needed to see his doctor. Seriously. That reading is 4X what "normal" should be. Telling someone to see their doctor should be an easy answer.
All the sites I've looked up said 600 is the "go to the hospital NOW" number. I thought that is what I remembered from helping take care of my grandmother (she was a type 1 diabetic).and I worry about 98 when 99 is the top of normal
I would have a heart attack if they told me that
or assume it was way wrong
The 99 is the high number for normal non diabetic at the lab mine goes to... I am sure you are right about the go to hospital number. All the sites I've looked up said 600 is the "go to the hospital NOW" number. 99 to about 120 is normal for fasting. if it is over that, then they move to a sugar test to see how sugar is regulated over a period of time. Two hours after eating, blood sugar should be back down to the normal range. If it stays high they will monitor it and often start treating. The 99 is the high number for normal non diabetic at the lab mine goes to... I am sure you are right about the go to hospital number.
The College I worked for gives retirees a free blood test in the fall, along with current FT... sometimes additional tests can be bought by retirees... no ins taken... but for free I can't complain what they offer. This started because the faculty USED to get free ins for 5 years after they retired. The INS wanted to catch anything early and recommended it. The rest of us FT grabbed the coattails for the ride. I expect this to end someday.99 to about 120 is normal for fasting. if it is over that, then they move to a sugar test to see how sugar is regulated over a period of time. The A1C is a better way to tell though.
