Need some advice, guys.

My new little d'Uccle, Arya, has been sitting alot over the past week. Since yesterday I noticed she's been limping on her left foot. (She's about 4-5 months or so and has not started laying yet, as far as I can tell.) I gave her leg and foot a good going-over and do not see or palpate any swelling, instability, etc. She is eating and drinking and none of the other chickens are lame. I isolated her and her big sister (inseparable) Hedwig in the hospital/broody coop just now, with lytes, vitamins, and probiotics in her water. I feel so bad, have any of you guys had this happen? I went to the poultry symptom checker and looked at everything it could possibly be.

What do you think? Should I give her something for pain? If it was broken I would think there would be swelling, but there isn't. Maybe slipped tendon?

Thanks! XO

She is a tiny thing....:hmm
It could be a slipped tendon....those never stay back inline once they slip. :hmm
It could also be a deformity in the joint.
How bad is she limping?
Does the foot turn in?
Is she able to gimp around or is she just sitting?
I would give some aspirin....but I don't know the dose for a tiny bird. :hmm

She's been gimping around. The foot isn't turning in, it's more turned out, if that makes sense. Yesterday she wasn't holding it up, but now she is. She is still able to perch, but it is more like she is sitting on the perch with her belly, and not putting the weight on her feet so much.

Poor little baby! Maybe tomorrow I will figure out an aspirin dose. I'm not sure what to do. I've had chickens over two years now, never had a lame one before. I'm thinking maybe acute injury~

Yes, Sallie started this way the leg eventually froze in place. It was an infection an extremely resistant one.
I hope yours is just a sprain.

Dear lord I know! I'd have sooo many roosters if I hatched everybody and maybe 20 hens lol!
Hen person has let that mess go on for days, now that she's shut her eyes they're seeking help but won't even now physically check her!
I saw the math! One thing though.......if we hatch them all and then they grow and breed and we hatch them all....

Tribbles anyone? :th

I couldn't even look at the eggbound hen thread. :(

Seriously the time to catch the issue is before death.
1/2 an 81mg for bantam.

Thanks Chickie. Maybe tomorrow I'll try the aspirin. Those two new ones are terrified of me still, so I'll be as gentle as possible. They're quite the pair! Hedwig, her brooder mate, is the ugliest, gawkiest, scaredest chicken I've ever seen. She's huge and my biggest chicken. But they love each other and don't associate at all with the rest of the flock, so I'll just keep them isolated in the jail to rest for awhile and see how she does.

Years ago I had a gimpy Orpington. Her name was Peaches. The joint slowly went bad and her leg would "pop" as she walked. It forced her foot directly under her middle. Hers turned out to be a slipped tendon and no matter what we did to realign it it popped right back out.
She went 6+ years before it became to much and caused her to sit around. She was a BIG hen though.

I am hoping the aspirin and rest will help your tiny girl out.

I'm looking for any info on taxes. I know there is a farm credit you can get... is it worth it?
Or is it better to run it as a business?

I'm asking because I need some things to start this breeding program.

Like another coop... I'm thinking there is a way to write that off. Along with other supplies. Help!! Point me in the right direction. My personal taxes are complicated so I'm not a total dummy but I want to start this right.
Read this first.

I do not believe you would qualify as a farm in the eyes of the IRS.
This won't apply to you but just in case you need something to read:

Hey @Chickassan Loki is unquestionably a cockerel, right? The big comb and lacing on the neck feathers confirms it, right?

You'll win them over, you tamed a beaver. I have complete faith in your powers!
You don't tell Hedwig she's ugly do you? I swear they know what it means. :)
