Official Squatch Watchers

Good morning, peeps! I am now "Overrun With Chickens," yay! (like I got some kind of reward, lol.)

Gotta get ready for work. I am not gonna lose my sh*t today. Cuz--in the immortal words of Stuart Smalley--I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and people like me,,,(at least, you guys do!) Y'all have a good day, and see ya around 3-ish! **MWAH!**

RJ, how many children do you have? I am sure you have said already. How would anyone know your granddaughter had a Silkie anyway? Are they loud? Call it a bird instead of a chicken.

2 kids, boy & girl and 8 grand kids.

Well, I got sidetracked from caffeine and bath by the realization that I wanted to put a pot of bones on the stove to simmer overnight. I went digging through the freezer and came up with more bones than I thought I had. I've got a 20qt pot, full of water and bones. I've got another 10qt pot full of chicken stock that we will be adding to the bone broth for flavor. We'll probably put the bones through 3 different simmer cycles with vinegar in the water to get all the good stuff out of the bones and into the broth.

I've noticed that I can't seem to cook my pasture raised birds' bones to mush like I can with a store-bought Cx bird's bones. I used to just feed the bone mush to my chickens and it would be all gone, but if I give my DP bird bones to the chickens I just end up with whole bones thrown all over the paddock, which is a predator draw. Is there any way to process the bones after I'm done with them to make them easier for the chickens to eat? @rjohns39 do you have any ideas?

I don't feed chicken to chickens... but I do feed chicken to the hogs.:D Bones break down in compost in about six months.

I have a question.....I got 3 new chickens on Aug 3. 2 Cochin Bantams and CCL. They were about 6 weeks when I got them. Will they start to lay yet this winter or will I have to wait til spring?

You could see eggs in a couple weeks or you might have to wait. They're girls, they'll lay when they're good and ready.:old

Morning Squatchers! Uhg, I've got a bunch of tests today.:tongue

Best of luck. You'll do great:fl

House cleaned some yesterday kinda halfheartedly. Still have more to do today.
Cleaning is something I have to be "in the mood for".
I "like" clean, as opposed to "dirty" it's just not the center of my universe.
DH came back from his business trip.
We started watching the HBO series (but on amazon)
John Adams. It's not brand new. but I kept falling asleep.
That was NOT a reflection on the show.
The show was awesome.
I was just that pooped!

I hope @Redhead Rae's little milkdrinker lets her get some Rest today.
How is her toe?
Jammed/broken/sprained things always hurt so bad the second day, especially toes, and since she was up working all night the chance of her icing it and keeping it elevated was probs close to nil.

@Rubysword -
Knock those tests outta the park girlfriend!!!!!!!!
You got this!
