Official Squatch Watchers

The ThermaCare wraps get as warm as a hotpad.
Wow

I have a box of hand warmers that I used one for the first time in a box with 2 poults someone picked. It was 40f out and I was worried. It also was barely warm. But it was a small box and hopefully they kept the van warm

I lucked out! I mean, REALLY lucked out!

I wanted to see how my first batch of Cornish did before I ordered my second batch. Since we harvested half of the first batch on Saturday, we made the decision to get a second batch of Cornish X birds and some replacement guineas to come in mid August (for October slaughter date on the CX). I'm glad I decided to order today. I looked at my hatchery's availability. The guineas just happen to be available then as well! I've never seen meat birds NOT be available. I guess I probably would have ordered some surplus heavy breed roosters if I hadn't gotten these.

I don't know if they are just not breeding those or if the lack of a stable food supply has folks going homesteader. For real....it is one reason I ordered a drake.

Does seem to be a lot of sold out dates for chickens of all kinds. I am looking forward to seeing some free roosters in another 10-12 weeks when they all start to crow!;)

No kidding! We are technically legal to have a rooster here......but being in town I don't want to tick off the neighbors.
Getting free roosters for the freezer isn't a bad thing.

It is impossible to order all pullets and not get a rooster or 2. At Tractor Supply even worse, it seems like the ones marked female are all male! White dots on their heads when I was looking at the Black Sex Links. Not many left, either. The people who know better took the pullets! LOL!

I am feeling very lucky. At almost 8 weeks old, I am feeling reasonable confident that I only have one oops male in my group of 14 :woot
