Official Squatch Watchers

I found a bunny graveyard under the bushes out front of my house. I have a big sumac tree growing where it shouldn't and when I trimmed the bushes to find the trunk I got a surprise.
Two mostly eaten and buried bunny bodies. The one I could reach had a 7" spine so not a baby bunny.
Some critter's stash?

I have racoons and possums frequently around the house. Sometimes eating the dogfood outside lol. So far they have not posed a problem to my chickens since I went with 1/2" wire on everything.

Before once I did have an issue with a small Chicken Coop I was going to use as a grow out coop for silkies. It just have chicken wire around it and a raccoon reached through and way the heads off of all my chicks. It was sad but I did not get mad at the raccoon. It was just doing what it's nature was telling it to do. I can definitely understand people killing them if they are causing issues or moving them to a new area but so far I've been able to live in peace with the predators around me.
That said I only let them out in the day when I can supervise them and lock them back up before I leave or go to bed. I know not everyone can or wants to do it that way. If I was to free-range all the time mine probably wouldn't last a week. Lol

But what critter? There were 3 of the feet, the spine, and fur. No skull and no parts left. It hadn't been there long, no bug activity. The other bunny all I could see was a foot. It had buried the rest with leaves and such.

Yeah, foxes and hawks hunt by day.

I have lost a couple to hawks in the day in the past. So far not had an issue with foxes. We do have some but I think my dogs keep them away for the most part. There is a family of red foxes that has been seen next door though. One is almost white! Which I find really cool. Lol

Even if you are standing there watching, a fox can snatch one and be gone before you move.

Let's see how that would be scary and something to worry about. To get to mine one would have to climb a fence but I also know they are well known for doing that also. 🤞 Thankfully so far they have not. Maybe I should set up a trail cam to get some pictures of what all shows up. Could be interesting.

Don't rule fox out - they can jump pretty high from standing still - I've seen it happen. It landed in the yard where people have a big Staffordshire Terrier - lucky for the fox, the dog was in the house. Owner only lets it in the yard when he comes out to smoke.
