Yum! After that breakfast I could not eat all day!

Oh dear! I meant french toast made with duck eggs. So 2 pieces of bread, 2 pieces of bacon, a bit of egg and cream, butter and tablespoon of powdered sugar.

It didn't FEEL like a big breakfast.

Coops and brooder are cleaned. Kids fought over a moth carcass. Yummy?

It is 80° already. I am going to move the truck and my bike then move the truck again so I can unload it all. I will be glad when we get the driveway widened.

Grit and Oyster shell are best provided on the side free choice, as for the scratch just remember it's a treat. As for wasting, my teenagers are the worst. They scoop it out of the feeder and all over the ground. As for pellets, every pellet has the same blend of feed. So one pellet is no better than the next, but you'll never ever convince the birds of this. :gig
I really need to work on the inside of their coop. I just don’t have much room to play with. I made it 3x8, when I really should have made it 6x4. I know it’s the same square footage, but I don’t like that long rectangle I have and I could have really used that extra foot in width.
Can I put both in their trough type feeder: grit on one side, shell on the other?

I found out if I mix the crumbles with water, the birds waste less. They do tend to mash it down, so I stir it up later in the day.

Why not make it 8x4, less waste of materials and you can always use the space

I guess it's certainly worth a try. I generally try to put them in separate containers or even separate piles on the ground. I am not sure it really matters with the grit like it does with Oyster shell. Too much grit is not bad for a bird to the best of my knowledge. In fact, my nutritionist suggests providing 1 part grit to four parts wheat free choice for turkeys.

I was using pallets and due to covid no one, me, was at work emptying them through everyday use. Eight is all I managed to scrounge. I used two for the floor, etc. It’s just I should have put them together the other direction. I just had to make do with what I had on hand. I wanted to make it four pallets big instead of two, that was the original plan.

Ok, cool! I hate wasting stuff and that’s been sitting empty since I upgraded their feeder.

How big is too big for the holes in wire fencing? After doing a quick inventory of my stock, I realize I don’t have enough 1x2 welded wire and will have to use 2x4 welded wire. This is for their enclosed run (chicken jail ).
I've seen a lot of folks who use 2x4 with chicken wire over the top. That's not going to prevent a raccoon from reaching in, but likely would keep smaller critters out. I used 2x4 for structural support on the lids to my tractors and put half inch over it.

That’s kinda what I figured. I’m out of 1/2” and will have to get more. I also thought of regular window screen over top. Either the aluminum or petproof stuff, but that costs as much fencing!
