Found a Dead hawk in the poultry yard last night. Not sure what it is. It's been dead for a while. It's dried up and half eaten, foot broken off. I was in that section about 2 weeks ago and it wasn't there.
About 18 inches from beack to end of tail. First picture it's topside up, second underside up.

Maybe a young coopers hawk.

They aren't always successful in making it once fledged. Maybe something found it dead and drug it into the place you found it.

I know what you mean about digging not happening. Hard as a rock ground makes it impossible.

It was inside the poultry fencing under trees, 20 ft from the fence...so they would have to take it through the tree top highway.. I suppose something could have dropped it. I live next to high power lines and birds sometimes hit the wires and glide over to my place. Took an injured egret to a rehab facility a couple decades ago.

Oh, did you guys know they have rechargeable lighters now?
I just got one like 5 mins ago, it looks like a cattle prod and sounds like a tazer.
It absolutely does make fire though, so heads up smokers and fire bugs.

Mine do the same thing. Fight over who goes where. When I'm out there and they start up I yell "Be nice! You guys are so mean to each other."
I did get a good laugh a week or so ago. B*tch Pudding lives up to her name and she's molting.

Can you tell which chicken she is? :lau

Let us know how they work out. I tried usb lights with solar and a battery. Something was wrong with them... they wouldn't stay on one color. Sometimes slow transition from one to the next other times fast rave style techno party. Then they wouldn't turn off! I had to climb up and unplug them. Now the lights are up there with the solar converter but no panels outside and they birds knocked the battery down. It was a small car battery. Not sure how they managed it but luckily from a 10 foot drop it didn't land on anyone. Battery didn't survive the fall.

About 3000. I went with the same mortgage broker who did it the first time. I will say don't look online for information. I did a couple of those quick survey "let's see if you qualify" things cause that's the only way they will tell you current rate and what they will charge. Even though I specifically said I don't want email news it doesn't stop them from constantly reminding me "my quote is waiting. Let's get started refinancing." I actually had to block quicken loans from calling me after I gave the person an earful. They were calling me 3 to 4 times a day. A DAY! I don't answers numbers I don't know cause if you need something you can leave a msg. They called about a week before finally leaving a msg saying who it was. The next day on the 4th call I had it. Poor person got their name out and "from..." before I cut them off. "I know! You have been calling 3 to 4 times a day. STOP calling me." And hung up and blocked the number. 🤬🤦🏻‍♀️

I got home from work one night and mindlessly turn the car off, grab the keys, and open the door. Ding ding ding ding.... wait what? Then I looked at the keys. Yep the blade was still in the ignition. I actually started laughing. Luckily enough was sticking out I could grab it but I can't really start the car again. Whoever thought those switchblade keys would hold up to daily use should be fired. View attachment 2377448
The miniscule amount a metal taking all that force just couldn't anymore. It cracked on both sides and the roll pin fell out. By some miracle I found the pin (my floor mats are dirty) and glued the blade in place again so I could start the car. When I first bought it I only had one key so had one made. It would only open the doors. I went to an actual key place. (Not Walmart or the hardware store) It was expensive as far as keys go but I figured I least couldn't lock my one set in the car. This time I went to the local Ace and for $2.55 got a working key that will start the car. They guy said he's seen 5 or so of those broken switchblade keys in the last week. Now that I know it will work I got a second one so I have an actual spare. I left the key fob so I can lock and unlock but I use the other key to start the car. When fobs first came out that's how they were anyway. LOL That's all the car drama I need for a while. I certainly don't want to have to replace the whole thing.
I’ve always disliked those thing. So expensive! Im ecstatic to hear the regular key works. My car only came with one key also and I couldnt get a spare one, but i’ll try the regular one now.

Hmm, the loner would be my guess. I assume she hasn't discovered she’d be warmer surrounded by friends?

I’m wondering about the keys too :gig
Should you report it to your wildlife office and let them take it?

I looked on the website and nothing about dead raptors, unless in good shape for West Nile testing.
Hey it couldn't fly and I thought if it had keys it would leave :gig

I was going to suggest reporting it for testing but if they say "in good shape" a dried up jerky hawk isn't it. I'd at least get it out of the chicken yard so the cannibals don't help themselves. Then play dumb if someone asks about it.

Oh they might have eaten what they want anyway. I may not go out there but the poultry do.
It's pretty much eaten/dried up. Something ate the legs and through the abdomen, like a opossum. I caught a opossum Friday.
Do vulture carry dried up dead things off? On the other side of me is an interstate, could have been hit. It's back bone isn't squished so it didn't get run over.
It's drizzling, maybe it will rain so I can do something with it, besides flipping it over the fence towards the highway ditch

The Cameron peak fire is not he one close to us. Calwood is Southwest I think.

https://www.larimer.org/cameron-peak-fire

This is info from pur county on the Cameron fire. The mandatory evacs are about 3-4 miles west of us with most of that being the city itself. I never in my life thought that a fire would reach through the canyon like this.

At least today is chilly and damp.
