I've been talking with RJ about building a smoker. I think *we* have decided on THIS ONE. I already know the safety precautions about what pallets can and can't be used so please, no need to tell me.

My concern now is, the lining. The diy-er uses heavy duty aluminum foil. I like the idea cause it's very very inexpensive (CHEAP!!! I AM COMPLETELY CHEAP!!!), but I'd like to go for something a little more permanent.... I can just see me getting little tears in the foil and having to replace it every time I use the smoker and that is no bueno.

Several ideas have been thought of. Here's what I've come up with:

Pressed tin: Non corrugated of course. Hoping to find it at Lowes.

Ceramic tile: Not sure how I would attach it to the interior or if I'd need some special glue to tack them to wood.

Clay: Again, not sure how I'd do this.... or the cost.

Can anyone give some advice or their thoughts? I'd like to TRY to get it completed before the New Year.

Ok, Heavy duty Reynolds wrap is 0.0009448819" (0.94 mils) Thick.

This industrial aluminum foil is: 0.016" (16 mils) thick.

For comparison, greenhouse film is: 0.006" (6 mils) thick.

Have DH check with the jet mechanics to see how thick their foil is and nab you a sample.

Oh gosh, i don't even want to test that concept. I am trying to focus on the greenhouse idea. It would need a heater for sure. I need a book on the topic, i have to go to the library Monday any way.

Mine is made out of the top rail of a chain link fence and I bent the pipes with my bender... but you should also checkout geothermal. You would have to rent a back hoe, but compared to the price of a heater and fuel? Then there would be electricity for the fans. Hmmmm

Here's one in idaho, I think.

How about a parrot that lives in the snow and doesn't fly?

I knew of them. Fascinating creatures!
The ten pound ground parrot in New Zealand is really cute but seriously endangered.

Thinking about changing my BYC name.........
Maybe "things with wings" ....... You guys would probably all call me "thingy" :lau

Morning Cap! Gonna be a beautiful day here too.

We are forecast to break records today and hit the mid 70's.

Rain snow mix tomorrow lol.

Morning @rjohns39. Really cool greenhouse ideas!
I like the idea of a green house. I have very little land though. I do use cold frames and manage to start things early that way. I need to improve on my planting schedule though.

Good day, my wonderful Squatchy Peeps! I'm baaaaccckk!

I survived Thanksgiving with the Fockers! :)

Some highlights from the day:

I cooked a crapload of food. Turkey and ham (even though I don't eat meat, I still know how to cook it) and a ton of other stuff. Roasted brussels, garlic roasted smashed redskins, stuffing, biscuits, smashed turnips, deviled eggs, spinach dip etc.....yum. Beeyatch knows how to throw a party!

My mom--who is disabled and has a pill problem--rolled up in her jazzy with my sis and her clan from Delaware, with three burnt-to-a-crisp pies. Cuz she fell asleep on the toilet while baking them. I shizz you not.

My very proper, old lady SIL and MIL stated how MOIST the ham was. Oh my lord, did the conversation degenerate from there. It was a veritable MOISTFEST for probably the next, oh, 20 minutes or so. Lol!! My fam is tres inappropriate, and the hubs' is very old, old-school Italian. Much hilarity ensued.

I brought a chicken in the house. My family (who are all staunch animal lovers) had no idea of the coolness and excellence of pet chickens. I schooled them. I brought in Flower, my MFD, and my niece and my mom could not stop cuddling her. They couldn't believe how sweet and docile and content she was to sit in their laps, making her sweet little chickeny noises. The MIL and SIL looked a little horrified, but oh well!

We put a lock on our bedroom door so my one sister's weird ass BF wouldn't pass out on our nice bed with his stanky feet and greazy homeless self, like he did last time. He came, he stuffed himself with ten pounds of food, never said hi or bye or thank you or that was good, and passed out with his stanky feet on the couch. Me and my other sister (who is evil) took stealth pictures of him and made snarky memes out of them.

My nephews got a kick out of feeding the chooks lots of leftovers in their runs. It was their first Thanksgiving! It was great watching them play keep away with pieces of turkey (which struck me as a mite bit cannabalistic, but oh well!)

It was a lot of cooking and alot of cleaning and a lot of furniture rearranging, but it was worth it. A good time was had by all!

And I have pictures. :D

Hahahaha. Here is the Creepy Weirdo Homeless Boyfriend that we stealthily snapped off a pic of. Eat all my food, don't have any manners, and you will wind up on a Squatchwatchers thread. Be warned.

Hey PBM! Nice to see you back! Sounds like you had a really good time!
I just went and let the chickens out and gave them treats. They are loving it. The solar box is 68 inside and 55 outside. I put dirt in the window box and i am going to make the screen cover today. I seeded it already and will water it today. Those chickens are going to go nuts over fresh greens. The greens did not do well in the garden this year.
