Official Squatch Watchers

Me and my fam are doing this thing called the whole thirty, where we take grains, legumes, dairy, and sugar out of our diet for 30 days and reintroduce the one at a time at the end to see which of them have negative effects. However, this means no honey in my tea. *sob*

The cycle of being sick/kids being sick is exhausting in the winter. I hope you can get cleared out enough to function. Maybe crack a window when you hit that balmy 32 degree mark for a few minutes to let the germs escape and a little fresh air in.
I think we'd all benefit from some of rjohns special tea that he makes for his wife !
He could make it in a stockpot and we could all share!
I think I'm going to give my son another epsom salt steam bath tonight and then rub him down with lavender lotion. It seemed to help him move out some of the congestion when I gave him one 2 nights ago. I'm just really glad we have a gas heater in the bathroom. Shut the door and it practically turns into a sauna.

I used to need honey or sugar for tea. I just got used to drinking tea without it. Now I can't stand sweetened tea.

Oh heck no.

I was tested for food Allergies and they came up with 27 I cut out and reintroduced 1 a week.. I thought it was a bunch of taters but did it anyway... ummm when I reintroduce black pepper and legumes I was fine.. but when I did wheat I was waking up again w/every joint in my body hurting... cows milk and I was so congested again... I didn't try anything else after the wheat and milk.. yet anyway

OK.....I hate you cuz of your weather too. Mother Nature is just wicked and cruel. Enough already!! Mother Nature can take her polar vortex and shove it up her tater! :rant
Agreed! We better have a beautiful spring after this mess.

I am going to modify my vents even though they work OK. I find my peaked roof coop holds more MOISTure then my single slant coop.

In my big house the vents are on the long sides and not at the same height. The vents run the entire 14' both sides. I will add a vent to the south wall as high as possible near the peak. Not doing it today since my humidity is not bad. I just want more bad air out/good air in.

FREAKING FROZEN TATERS!! You are COLD.
Odin certainly has more to deal with since he has big ole wattles and comb.

Busy h8en Smuv for her toasty temps! Oh wait.... Do I see rain in that forecast??
OK that means mud. Not h8en then!
I have a slanted roof w/ vents on the sides near the front. It doesn't feel MOIST, but today I noticed frost creeping up from the floor on the sides. I'm wondering if that means there's a gap where the walls meet the frame. Nothing I can do about it now, but I foresee some siliconing in my future.

Well, I finally started up the wood stove. Woke up this morning and it was bouncing between 1 and -1, got up to 32 and is now 17. Time for supplemental heat. I normally don't start the wood stove until Feb 15. Smuv you can have your tatery cold back:he I don't want it.
That reminds me of my friend whose bedroom was in the finished attic of her house, but it didn't have any heat. Being stubborn she just used an electric blanket. She got sick and actually asked her dr if it was a problem that her bedroom was 35 degrees.. her dr looked at her like a 2nd head just sprouted on her shoulder.

I will never complain about being hot ever again. I will continue to complain about humidity and bugs but not heat.
I will complain about heat no matter what, and I will complain about cold too. And bugs and humidity. Just b/c it was too hot 6 months ago doesn't mean I should appreciate freezing today.

I like the purple garlic whatever kind that is
I once bought elephant garlic from a roadside stand. It was awesome. I haven't seen it since.

Is that sisal

it might be sisal hemp.
Never heard of that, I'll have to take a look. Thanks!!!

Holy hell... I just read a think that said you guys were supposed to get hit w/ that polar cyclone and it was supposed to be horrible all along the coast. What gives?!

Omg! NOOOOOOooooooooo!:hit:duc:thim trying to catch up and. And. And. ......
I just called you all TATERS!
So so sorry
:yuckyuck

Ok, in theory if a person were to count to 1 Million (according to the internet) it would take ~ 70 hours IF you could do it straight - no stopping.... 53k in 4 years seems excessive.

It is currently 3 degrees. It was -3 yesterday morning. I'm looking forward to Sunday and Monday.

I'm jealous of your Sunday & Monday. Where are you guys all getting this beautiful weather from?!

It makes me feel a little bit better that you're freezing too.

Morning Ruby and all:frow

You may need to cover your soil with plastic to warm it up, but you're not too too late.
When I first read this I saw 'cover your soul with plastic to warm it up'... Either way, probably good advice.

We've been lucky... no disease yet. Loads of other people saying they're sick, but never going outside has worked to benefit us. Tiny human had/has a sinus infection. Various cold symptoms, but nothing like the horrible flu/ flu-like symptoms everyone else has encountered. My parents were both sick. I refused to go into their house. Told them to stay away from me.

It was 1 degree this morning but it's supposed to hit 22 this afternoon. I opened up the doors, but left the heater on. Even with it on it was only 22 inside which is totally fine. Everyone is up and moving and whatnot, but I worry that if I turn it off at this point that it will not be able to heat it back up to that point, esp considering the high is single digits the next 3 days.
I snapped a pic of Odin last night. His feathers look really gross b/c the stuff I put on his waddles and comb melt and make his feathers all coated with oils. The black spot on the back of his comb and on the waddle aren't from the cold, it's from the mean girls attacking him.

I also noticed some mouse/ rat tracks near the run this morning.. doesn't look like they were able to get into the run, but they were def checking it out. Unfortunately our previously outside cats are inside cats now, but it looks like there was a cat wandering around back there so hopefully it eats them. I'm trying to figure out where to put the stupid trail camera so it might actually catch something. I see foot prints, but it seems that nothing is setting it off.

They be messin with my math!!

Seriously they are wonderful people and have great birds. I am sure they have several hatcheries they deal with.

I want blue Australorp!!

Apryl,
The frost could be from moisture escaping the bedding/any droppings that are there. I would not worry to much.

I would put a couple holes in that coop on the tall side just below the roof. The higher the better.

In the pic of Odin.... Is his comb always that close to the roof? A bit worrisome since there isn't room for moisture to rise much if at all.

He has super long wattles oh dear.

Was there a specific reason for the testing, like hives or something? I would be interested in something like that with my arthritis and other things.
