Official Squatch Watchers

Some folks live paycheck to paycheck. By the time they pay rent, car payments, insurance, and untilities they may be nearly out of money. And groceries are not getting any cheaper. Medications can cost a lot too. Kids need clothes, school books, etc. And good paying jobs are getting harder to find. But if they can't afford to take care of the animals they should sell them to someone who will.

Cappy, I am not heartless and I understand everything you said. I feel a little insulted that you felt the need to *explain* life to me. Trust me, I KNOW a lot more about life than you think.

I wanted to take a moment to rant in a group setting where I felt I would be understood. Apparently that won't be happening again. Excuse me.

:rant:rant:rantAm I the only one who gets terribly ticked off when someone says they *can't afford* something for their animals?! And I mean, something that's only a couple of dollars. :rant:rant:rant

How can you have 3 dogs, 6 cats and a flock of chickens, but can't afford to get a bottle of molasses to make a DIY NutriDrench.... or even to send your dead bird into a lab to get a necropsy to possibly SAVE your flock?!?!?

I don't mean to rant, but I've read waaaay too many posts over the last couple of weeks that say this exact thing... oh I can't afford to send for a necropsy, I can't afford a can of salmon to help my ailing bird, Oh I REALLY hope the bird can hang in until payday cause I can't afford to get it the simplest of products to help, or maybe CURE it.... :barnie

/endrant
People are like that about everything... Have no money for bills, but borrow money until payday for luxuries

Oh now, don't go taking it personally. I feel as you do. If you can't care for animals don't keep them. I went to a lumber mill one day and saw a dog and cat. They were full of fleas and looked sick. I wanted to take them out of that situation, but i have my own to care for. I turned around and left that filthy place.
I love you, Smuv! Some folks just don't love their animals like we do. It sucks, but thats life. We love hearing rants!
Just go ahead and smack me a couple times! I know ya want to.

I told a young lady earlier this week that the best thing to do for her puppy is to surrender it because it broke it's leg and needs surgery that she can't even come close to affording. Fortunately, that is what she did, and the puppy has a really good chance of a great life with a family that will be able to give him the time, room and financial stability he'll need.

I try very hard to make sure our animals are properly cared for, and if I don't think we can give an animal what it needs, we don't bring it in to our home. But I also know what it's like living paycheck to paycheck, and that not everyone is lucky enough to have family that can help, or a vet that will put the charges on a tab as long as you can make payments. Care credit isn't a viable option for everyone either, we got turned down because of bankruptcy.

Yes, if you cannot afford to take proper care of your animals, are unwilling to put things for yourself aside so you can get what the animal needs, or just don't care, then you need to sell, give or surrender your animal so someone who is able to give them what they need can have them. Yes, it can be hard, but it's what needs to be done for the animal to have the life it deserves.

So yes, I would totally side with Smuvers, and definitely agree with the rant.

I do try to see both sides of everything, and even be empathetic as long as the individual isn't a total moron or uncaring tater hole, but that doesn't mean I'm agreeing with them, only that I see where their convoluted thinking is coming from. It can tater people off, which is why I do it sometimes, and other times it's so others can be enlightened.
