Official Squatch Watchers

Hard to say. They all died right around molt time. C.C. the first and the little cockerel I didn’t notice any strangely loose feathers.
Sugar was next and she was easily losing feathers. I had her in the house so I did notice. Trouble I just found dead. He was molting so was losing feathers left and right.
Cream Puff was molting so hard it was why I brought her in. I did think it was odd that feathers came off when I.... ended it.
Gladys seems to loose feathers fairly easily. I have to hold her and move her around though so I attributed it to that.

What were their symptoms again?

They started off mopey, like Cocci symptoms and had greenish, stinky, runny poop. They didn't have much of an appetite at first but then they would try to eat but didn't seem to able to get much down. They eventually got wobbly, and slowly became paralyzed and lost a lot of weight before they passed away. I tried doing Epsom salt flushes. The first girl, I was way too late in diagnosing it. The second, I thought it was working but she died on me suddenly overnight.

Thank you for sharing. Sorry for your losses. I’ve gone through a rough patch in the flock and we have all been playing detective.

Suspicious Nunny, very suspicious. Also being partially paralyzed and joint nodules are all calling cards of the toxin. Definitly worth looking into all things considered. I watch that 50 ducks in a hot tub guy on youtube and his ducks got it bad. Lots of gimp legs and big joints. If you have time check him out and go back to last year's videos you can see how it effects the body. It is ducks not chickens but the symptoms are the same.

Not hilarious Chookie! They peck pretty dang hard. Not much you can do either, people tend to frown on fighting strange peacocks so you just have to take the abuse! I only stayed sane by constantly feeding that blue b-hole! Getting in the car he flapped, displayed and did that peeeooock noise, so proud of his well fed self.:gig
I am sorry but that is hilarious! :lau These ladies run away if I get to close. Must know I don’t have any fries :p

Ugh, I got them from my second cousin.. his grandma brought him over knowing he had bugs but didn't tell anybody because she was embarassed. So I got bugs for no good reason at all! :barnie
It is best to assume all new chickens to your place have bugs. They are treated for bugs and worms during the quarantine period.

I am sorry that happened to you!

I feel for you Rae you've got kids and now those super lice exsist. Hopefully you either homeschool and become a hermit forbidding your kiddos to touch strange hats or have another boy so you can just buzz cut, wash all the bedding and call it a day.;)
We treated the lice with medicated dog shampoo-- It worked great! The lice were dead in the sink.

Thank you and I'm sorry that your flock is having troubles. I hope it can be figured out.
