Sorry Ron, I don’t have a “source” and I’m not here to argue. I’m sharing based on having used this method on my own hen Rosie with great results.
I’m personally familiar with the gamut of these types of medicines based on personal and professional experience, and have used enough of them over the years under the supervision of a doctor, to be my own source.

I am wanting to learn too. I hope the post did not come off as arguing.

So what do you use it for

I have found that finding much of anything in an actual scientific study sort for chickens very difficult.

I do find common ideas among the many articles though.

for vent gleet getting that crop acidified, treating that bum and keeping her clean all pop up.
How to do it all is what varies.
Molasses in the water at 1/3 cup to the gallon for 24 hours to clear the system.
ACV or citric acid in the water to acidify the crop.
A flushing of the bum and a bath (yup enema time)
Metronidazole in the front and the back. Some sites say yes in the bum while others treat topically.

Personally I would treat very aggressively since these dang tough birds like to fall over on us.

Like a very funny meme.

Or a REALLY gross picture.

Should I start giving her ACV right away, while she is taking the monistat?

Today Chicken got an epsom salt bath (she loved it), blow dry (tolerated it) and medicine in both ends (hated it). Shout out to the cashier who did not comment on the shear volume of anti-fungal and other first aid products I bought today.

Her crop was not empty this morning, but she is pooping solid poops still, and has a good appetite. The only food she is getting is all-flock crumbles mixed with water. She insists on standing in it while she eats

I will keep up the dual end treatment and hope to see improvement in the next couple days.

You peeps are true friends for helping me treat this chicken's hooha. I would be lost without y'll. Thank you

I would do it now. It's the unpasteurized kind it will say "with mother" on the label. Just don't overdo it. I think it's one tablespoon to a gallon of water........


ETA... One Tbsp is maintenance dose two is treatment dose. I would go with the 2 Tbsps for a week.
