I just found my little frizzled Serama hen trying to commit suicide. I noticed that I didn't see her around this morning for breakfast and this evening I didn't see her anywhere again. So I went looking around for her and found her in the coop shed, which only has 3 walls, trying to go broody on 3 LF eggs that were beside her frozen solid  It's A whole 27° outside and real feel says that it feels like 14°. This the first year that I'm letting the Seramas in coop for the winter but I didn't expect one go hiding outside in this cold :he. With all the wind and cold and snow, I tend keep the coop and run closed to keep the flock warmer (plastic all around the run). That brat must've snuck out yesterday and if I hadn't gone looking for her, she could've ended up freezing to death or starving! She's unhappily in with everyone now and looking like :rant
I have Seramas also and I was so worried about them today. I have the run all wrapped in plastic and it has a roof. I have a sweeter heater in the coop too. They seem perfectly fine. They are tough little taters.

I was thinking.......people say small chickens have a harder time keeping warm but what about sparrows and chickadees and such? They do fine in the cold and they are much smaller than my Seramas

I'm back! My husband is being a big giant man-baby. He is jealous of BYC. No lie, he pulled up the chair right in front of the TV, is watching The Wedding Singer for like the millionth time, and is pointedly ignoring me. :smack

Wah wah wah. Seriously. Do your SOs ever resent your special, precious BYC time?

If I'm on for less than an hour, I don't think that should count, do you? It's like chicken math-style thinking.

(thing is, The Wedding Singer is so dumb and funny I can watch it a million times too, so he's only hurting himself! Adam Sandler in a mullet rocks my world.)

Nope, I get my BYC/YouTube time, he gets his shoot'em up games. He is sitting at the desk next to mine playing one of them as we speak. The only caveat is that I've asked him to not play games that can't be interrupted since I have to work and the Milk Drinker can be fractious at times.

It REALLY sucked when he used to play GTA all the time, especially when he way playing missions live online. Not only was the game making him a pissed off, angry person, but he was constantly unavailable.

I have to unplug before my husband divorces me, he's getting an attitude because I think he thinks I like you guys more than I like him (sometimes I do, I'm not gonna lie).

I canNOT stop laughing about your Jeffrey Dahmer freezer Moly, I have this ridiculous magic mushroom grin and my face muscles are starting to hurt. :lauThat seriously made my entire life worth living, thank you from the bottom of my freaky little soul!

Love you all, good night, please may none of us dream about frozen eels and armadillo babies, lol!!! Kisses~
:gig:love:hugs

My run is also roofed and has plastic all around, except for the eves for ventilation. I don't add a heater at all but I straw down for bedding and a lot of other breeds there so far, they've been ok. I've seen my little Holly (smooth Serama) snuggling against one of the orpington hens to stay warm. I believe they are tougher than they look but it's always hard to actually let them out there to deal with the cold!

I can barely stay indoors long enough to get started on a game

I have my Seramas in with all my other chickens so I think that helps. The big girls help keep the little ones warmer. My 5 Seramas roost at night with my Wyandotte Bantam and my Silkie.

My hubby doesn't mind. He gets his car shows and I get my BYC.

Funny for the day....

Early this morning I cleaned the big coop. My roosts are removable. I had them all stacked up.
It would appear I failed to reset the roosts.
I went to close the coop and found 18 birds on the stack of roosts. Talk about wall to wall chickens! The roosts are only 8' long!
Yeah, I got them all fixed up.

I came in from that to find my hubby had let the dogs in.
Sable had grabbed a cabbage burger/runza off the stove and macked down hiding in front of the fridge!
For those who don't know a cabbage burger is cabbage, onion and hamburger baked inside fresh yummy bread.

Yes a car show was on tv at the time.
