Misty, sweet friend...

I don't know what to say. (what can you say?)

You have always been suuch a wonderful presence here, always supportive and upbeat. I am so very sorry you and your DH are going through this, especially at this time.

There is nothing anyone can say to make it better, but know that I and everyone here are thinking of you and keeping you in our hearts. May this time be as peaceful for the both of you as possible. Much love to you, my friend. :love :hugs

Sounds right. My Silkie x OEGBs looked exactly like that.

Does he have white feet? Any brothers and sisters? When you cross a silkie with I think any white-legged chicken breed—but don't quote me on that—you get a sex-linked cross with white-legged males and dark-legged females.

Interesting! This is what my mystery eggs were from... Silkie and Serama girls, and Serama roos and an Ayam Cemani roo (I also have other breeds of hen, but the babies--with the exception of the pure Serama--all have 5 toes, so I'm assuming the moms had to be the Silkies).

Out of this batch of 5 this is what I got:

One pure Serama girl.

3 white-legged, 5 toed (except for Peach, lol, who has 6 toes on one foot) juveniles. Two are definitely boys, and one I think is a girl, but I'm not positive (I will post pics and get your opinions).

One black-skinned, black-footed boy. I'm wondering if he might be the only one who could have been sired by Lafayette, mydearly departed Ayam Cemani roo?

Crap, if what you said there is true, that means my beautiful grey white legged juvenile would be a boy...

Mmm, I'm pretty sure that the male would have had to be a silkie for that to hold true, so you might just be in luck.

Wow, awesome! No, I have no Silkie males. So you're saying my black-legged male is part Lafayette? That was my whole point in hatching these mystery eggs, I wanted to preserve a little bit of his DNA because he was a great roo.

Hoo boy. For somebody who never intended on having ANY roosters, I now have 5 (hopefully, lol) boys. I definitely have to keep Peach and Blackfoot. I may need to get a rooster bachelor pad, lol!

OK, but here's my other genetics question.

Is dark-skin and feet a dominant, or recessive gene? Because if it were recessive, that would mean that if my Silkie hen and Cemani roo mated, there would be a 25% chance that I could have a light-skinned and light-footed baby, no?

This stuff makes my brain hurt, lol, but I'm thinking back to the days of HS Biology with Mendel and his peas and the little charts we made.

I'd say it's pretty likely, yes.

No clue, sorry. I know very little about 'real' genetics, only what I've seen for myself with crosses.
