Official Squatch Watchers

:rantSo my chickens have bugs!!!! What the Pat Crow!!! I caught it early cause only one bird had signs of eggs. But about half of them that I checked had little creepy crawlies running around.:th
Of course it’s 20* and I can’t get them wet. So I’m going to try and powder them and cross my fingers. :flI may try a little Elector PSP on the worst ones but that will have to wait till Monday. With a high of 39*. Look out it’s a heat wave!:barnie
I put 1 lb of sulfur per 10lbs of dust... or sprinkle a bunch where they dust bath
works for mites and lice

Sulfur dust has been used for decades to control mites on chickens. The sulfur is usually provided to chickens in a “dust bath,” essentially a box of dust, which may contain fine dirt, sand, diatomaceous earth, insecticides and other powdery substances.

Very excited , i got the bunny cage to the point where all it needs is the front and the roof! Once i get that done, i can take the stacking rabbit cages out of the barn, clean them up and get rid of them. Then i can build a stall in the barn!

Is it lice or mites?

So sorry to hear that :hugs

I had one totally infested, bought the stuff to treat and then checked close to 50 birds with no creepy crawly's. Really confused...
That happens! Some seem to be more susceptible to bugs

I think they are mites. There really were not eggs all over the feathers. One FBCM had a dirty butt so I looked her over. She's the only one with the start of eggs. But the bugs themselves looked darker in color. Lice are usually white/off white.
Go ahead and buy some permethrin spray to spray in the coop.
Mites live in the cracks of the coop.

ETA: Spray the coop, everything, weekly for at least 3 weeks.
