One thing I almost bought were these rubbery, plastic like nest box mats. I noticed that the chicken chick uses them. They can be easily removed and cleaned and there is no need for shavings in the boxes. Anyone here use them? I didn't buy them because they seemed kind of prickly....the lady at Meyer said they are big sellers

I haven't seen them. I still use shavings.

I have some.... it says to put some bedding in to get them use to it.... doesn't mention that , grass at least, is next to impossible to get out.... I left a couple in a bucket soaking and when the grass starts to rot it comes out easier.
I have brown one with a denser pattern, those are the hardest to get grass out of
and I have grey with bigger spaces between the prickels , they clean easier.

They just seem like they would be uncomfortable for them to lay on.

I have a brown one they scratched the prickles off in the center
I think they like the soft grass better. I have been flipping them and putting grass on top. Have a 3yr ISA that lays fragile eggs that break. I was looking for something to cushion the bottom... since they always dig to china

I was very much less than impressed last year at our local feed stores and TSC. To much pasty butt, to many bins mixed up and WAY to many straight run bins.

I have what may as well be a Meyer just 30 minutes from here. That feed store is freaking awesome! They will special order anything you want. They also have no less than 15 breeds on hand!
:th
AND they will take back oopsters if they have room!

This is their most recent list.

They have Derps and cream brabanters!!! OMG!!
They are not too bad here at the local TSC. Still, I did go with the DW to make sure she did come back with black sexlinks. We raised 6 of them up to 6 weeks old and sent them off to the person we were brooding them for.

They have been laying for a while not too
