You guys, I have a weird chicken butthole question.

My Serama hen, Fergus, has a weird looking butthole. I don't have time to take a pic right now, I'll try to over the weekend. It's been for as long as I can remember as she started laying (she turns 1 year old tomorrow! Hard to believe! My hatch from @WVduckchick 's Serama eggs and my first ever hatch). It doesn't seem to bother her, but it hurts my eyes, lol.

It's like...she's a little bald around there and it always looks...not swollen exactly, but poofy around her vent. Maybe a little red. Like she's pooping out some eggs that are bigger than what she's built for. She doesn't mess with it.

I know a picture is really needed and I will send soe! But in the meantime, just throwing it ou there for you more experienced chicken peeps. :) Thanks!

I often notice more of a bald ring around the vent of seramas, more so than other hens. I think they preen so much, it kinda makes them more bald.

If you know what time of day she lays, maybe check her before and after, it could just be an egg waiting to come out? Also check first thing in the morning and see if it’s smaller. Could be a mating thing? Other than that, a pic probably would help more. :D

Ah man! Poor Poebe oddball or not that sucks. What kind of Sussex are you eyeballing? Speckled? You want some ping pong ball eggs in your life? :)
Good morning Squatchy peeps!

I've been quiet, but good. Just working, and tired! The daylight savings time messed me up big time this year. I miss you guys! I have a lot of catching up to do. Rae, I've been living vicariously through your adventures, and am so excited for you!

Stacey, you are always in my thoughts...! :hugs

Everyone else, I miss you! :love :hugs

The weather is getting nice (FINALLY) here, yesterday it was in the 60's!! I am dying to get out and garden and spend time with the chooks. :) I've been hanging out with them a little the past couple days. :)

I lost one of my girls two nights ago. No need for sympathy, she was an oddball and my least favorite chicken, my buff Silkie, Phoebe Buffay. She got real lethargic and skinny over a couple of days and I tried TLC and intensive care but she died anyway, I found her in her coop still warm at headcheck. Now I have 15 chickens.

Supposedly a lady is coming to pick up one of my roos today, so then I will be at 14. And with that!!! I am going to a farm today (hopefully) to pick up a couple more d'Uccles and maybe an Egger or Sussex (I always wanted one of them).

Gonna play catch up now!:caf XOXOXOXOX

Your're one of the few chicks out there that can make me anxiously await a b-hole pic...if you say its weird iv'e got to see it.:lau

Ok folks I'm a bit irritated at family. Apparently my grandfather was in a car accident a couple weeks ago. He passed. They scheduled the wake for yesterday and the funeral today. How on earth could I make it? He adopted my parents before I was born so that I could carry on his name. My eldest grandson probably hates us as we've had no access to him since he was three. My other grandson has MD and most likely won't out live me. I feel like I've totally failed him.
I am sorry for you loss!

Family can get very weird about death

Next time you make this recipe, add the cocoa powder and espresso to the flour mixture and not the butter sugar mixture. It makes the dough smoother

I did add dry to dry this round. It made very little sense to add the cocoa to the wet then add dry.

Oh I also did not have espresso powder.

It was a thick batter like frosting thick! I had to spread it in the pan.

I made this one for work this week. It was a hit!

Brownies
Icing
  • 12 ounces confectioners' sugar
  • 3 ounces melted butter
  • 1 1/2 ounces milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon peppermint oil, or to taste
Chocolate drizzle
Directions

1) Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9" x 13" pan. Or, for easiest removal, grease the pan, line with parchment, and grease the parchment.

2) Stir together the melted butter, sugar, and salt.

3) Mix in the cocoa powder, beating gently till smooth.

4) Add the eggs, again beating gently till smooth.

5) Mix in the flour and baking powder, stirring to combine.

6) Stir in the peppermint oil. The recommended amount will produce fairly strong mint flavor; adjust to taste.

7) Spoon the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing it into the corners.

8) Bake the brownies for 20 minutes, until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove them from the oven, and cool completely.

9) To make the glaze, stir together the sugar, melted butter, peppermint oil, and milk. Again, add peppermint oil to taste; the amount indicated produces fairly strong mint flavor.

10) Spread the glaze atop the brownies. It won't be thick; that's OK.

11) Make the chocolate drizzle by combining the chocolate and cream in a microwave-safe bowl, and heating till the cream is very hot and starting to form bubbles. Remove from the microwave, and stir till the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.

12) Dollop the drizzle atop the iced brownies. Allow to set for several hours, if possible, before cutting.
