Official Squatch Watchers

I hate challenge days! Especially with a promise of cheap chicks.
Well i'm on animal feeding duty starting next Tuesday.
The old couple next door are going to a car show in Myrtle beach so i'm designated cat feeder.
I can look forward to tripping their camera system and getting calls asking if i'm the one doing it and putting their goat up at least once a day.:gig
Can you text them before you go in so you don't get the obligatory Was that you? text later?

Ok folks I'm a bit irritated at family. Apparently my grandfather was in a car accident a couple weeks ago. He passed. They scheduled the wake for yesterday and the funeral today. How on earth could I make it? He adopted my parents before I was born so that I could carry on his name. My eldest grandson probably hates us as we've had no access to him since he was three. My other grandson has MD and most likely won't out live me. I feel like I've totally failed him.
:hugs That does seem really inconsiderate. They could have at least told you about the accident & that things don't look that well. My aunt was living in TX and when things started to look like things were getting close w/ my gma they told her to start heading back to OH. She arrived they day my gma passed. A bit of notice would have been nice.

You haven't failed him. You have done the best you can with what you have.

As for the grandson that "probably hates you" I can tell you that I am not remotely close to my dads side of the family. We only ever saw them at holidays and even then us grandchildren were a nuisance not a joy.
My point is that I don't hate any of them. I don't have a relationship with them and that is all there is to it. I don't wish them ill or anything bad. We sometimes have contact and that's fine. But just because you aren't close doesn't mean you hate.
x2

I had to check out the house.
So your house company keeps showing up in my FB :gig

That photo of the house on a pier is giving me anxiety.
:frowHi @Anansi

I see you working through the pages.

I’ve been up with my cat.
Waiting for the vets to open at 8 am eastern.

He put him little arm under the stove while I was doing the dishes after dinner (piece of dog cookie shot under there) like under the warming drawer, and sliced the helllllllll out of it.

I looked over and he was just sitting there with a perplexed look on his face holding his arm way up high while the blood ran everywhere.

I got the bleeding to stop.
Cleaned it. Neosporin-ed it. Gauze. Then wrapped it with vet wrap.

Fun fact. The 3M brand vet wrap I recently bought from chewy.... it’s worthless.
Hardly sticks.

I’ve literaly been holding him and wrestling with him all night because everytime I let go of him he tears off the bandage and goes at the gash which is all the way open.

Pretty sure he’ll need a couple of stitches or a good glue job.
AND DEFINITELY A CONE OF SHAME!!!!!!!:he
DH wasn’t up to the task of holding for any procedures.

If there’s blood involved, or you can “see the inside” he’s not available to assist.:th

Can definitely “see the inside” of this kitty’s arm.:hit
Wow. Glad you were able to get him in and get it fixed up. Poor little guy.

Yep, just catching up, Stacey. Ouch, poor Kitty. Try wrapping it, then using tape to keep it on, making sure that the tape sticks to some of the fur.

Gurtrude is doing much better, gaining some weight back, actually eating some food during the day, acting like herself. We even had a "Who's the bigger chicken?" contest after Bailey got them going with his barking. She's still on antibiotics, maloxicam and metronidizole, but the egg peritonitis is a lot better. We'll be spaying her in a month or two so the issue is permanently resolved. In the meantime, I make sure to fill her up every night with a baby food and crushed layer pellet mix that I can roll in to balls, which I put in the back of her mouth past her tongue so she swallows it. She also gets her meds at that time, 2 by mouth and a shot in her breast muscle. She also gets about 18 mL of probiotic enhanced water, and then she gets to go back to her out time.

@rjohns39 Don't feel like you've failed, you haven't. You've done everything that any other good parent, or child, would have done. You can't be at the funeral because you weren't given the information early enough to make the needed arrangements. You don't have contact with the one grandchild for reasons beyond your control. When they are old enough and wise enough, they will know why, and they won't hold anything against you. Absence doesn't mean hate, that comes from untruths and omissions by those who are there. Once they are a legal adult, it will be easier to be a part of their life again, if they choose. Just remember, you are loved for who you are, not for the progeny that keep the name going, nor for their progeny. A family name is nothing more than letters strung together so we can get the right person, but names eventually die out on some family trees even when the bloodline doesn't. My branch of the family tree will see the name die out when my brother dies, as all of my cousins in that side are female, but the bloodline continues because among those of us with kids, there are 10 more that could have kids of their own if they choose. Yes, having the family name continue would be nice, but having a family that knows they are loved, regardless of actions, is worth more in the end. You are doing your best, and I know you love all of your kids and grandkids, even if they don't know for whatever the reason is. So don't feel down or like you're a failure, cuz your grandpa wouldn't think that way, and neither do we.
Glad she's doing better! I hope the infection clears up soon & spaying goes well.

Good morning Squatchy peeps!

I've been quiet, but good. Just working, and tired! The daylight savings time messed me up big time this year. I miss you guys! I have a lot of catching up to do. Rae, I've been living vicariously through your adventures, and am so excited for you!

Stacey, you are always in my thoughts...! :hugs

Everyone else, I miss you! :love :hugs

The weather is getting nice (FINALLY) here, yesterday it was in the 60's!! I am dying to get out and garden and spend time with the chooks. :) I've been hanging out with them a little the past couple days. :)

I lost one of my girls two nights ago. No need for sympathy, she was an oddball and my least favorite chicken, my buff Silkie, Phoebe Buffay. She got real lethargic and skinny over a couple of days and I tried TLC and intensive care but she died anyway, I found her in her coop still warm at headcheck. Now I have 15 chickens.

Supposedly a lady is coming to pick up one of my roos today, so then I will be at 14. And with that!!! I am going to a farm today (hopefully) to pick up a couple more d'Uccles and maybe an Egger or Sussex (I always wanted one of them).

Gonna play catch up now!:caf XOXOXOXOX
Yay for the roo rehoming and :hugs for the loss even if it wasn't devastating.

You guys, I have a weird chicken butthole question.

My Serama hen, Fergus, has a weird looking butthole. I don't have time to take a pic right now, I'll try to over the weekend. It's been for as long as I can remember as she started laying (she turns 1 year old tomorrow! Hard to believe! My hatch from @WVduckchick 's Serama eggs and my first ever hatch). It doesn't seem to bother her, but it hurts my eyes, lol.

It's like...she's a little bald around there and it always looks...not swollen exactly, but poofy around her vent. Maybe a little red. Like she's pooping out some eggs that are bigger than what she's built for. She doesn't mess with it.

I know a picture is really needed and I will send soe! But in the meantime, just throwing it ou there for you more experienced chicken peeps. :) Thanks!
Does it still look weird today? Klaus had a kind of red naked spot above her vent too. I kinda wondered it it was b/c of feather picking from someone else, but she's also molting right now... or possibly b/c they don't have anywhere to dust right now so she's kinda poopy butted and she's pulling the feathers when she's cleaning her backside.

So this is my girl that seemed sick yesterday.....well she is perfectly fine today. I put her back out with hers friends and she waddled right out to the run chattering the whole way. Her named is Safron but we call her SaffyView attachment 1703943
Glad she's doing better! Hopefully it was just a sour crop issues that cleared up quickly.

Question.. I was just talking to my SIL. She's from the Philippines and she said that her gpa told her that they shouldn't eat their chicken's eggs for a few days after they're laid. She doesn't know why he said that, but she remembers that they'd have buckets of eggs and they'd mark them from what day they were from. I told her we didn't wait to eat them and she was surprise. Anyone ever heard of this? I assume it's a heritage/ traditional thing.

I took my oldest to get her driving permit yesterday. We drove for a bit in the school parking lot. She's not ready for the road just yet, but she's did pretty well. She had major issues trying to park. It was pretty funny to watch her try though.

A college educated man I worked with said that the first several eggs a pulley lays are no good...... "They are full of icky stuff"......

No not educated in animal husbandry or ever even had a pet.

I crack mine in a bowl.....some meat spot or blood spot may be present.....I just toss those.

Never had an issue from eating first eggs so I personally think it is some old superstition or something.

I didn't realize Marans were such a large bird! She's gonna be like a monster next to all my little girls, OMG. The biggest one I have is my Favaucana and I think she's maybe 5 pounds.

I've never seen a buff d'Uccle. I had to do a Google search. THere's not that many pics out there. Have any of you guys ever seen one?

:jumpy:jumpy

I've never even heard of a buff D'ucclle. Cant wait to see what it looks like full grown

Cute babies PBM!

I have never seen a tiny buff D'uccle before! Should be an interesting bird to watch grow up.

The Marans shouldn't be super giant like a Brahma. I think they come in around 6 pounds so not huge.

I was apparently a rule breaker.
Hubs was sleeping in his chairchair, dogs started rough housing, I took them to the human side of the yard to keep them out of the mud and let hubs snooze on.

Hubs was not pleased. :tongue

Whatever's! They had fun, he slept, now they sleep.
 Why it was a big deal.

They are big! They can be dual purpose meat birds. They eat a lot of feed too.

Very Cute!
