They're probably worried about lead paint. This girl I went to school with, she bought a really old house and didn't realize it, but her youngest was chewing on the window sill! She took him to the dr b/c he wasn't acting right and they finally figured out that he had lead poisoning. They had to have people come in to the house and professionally remove all the paint before they'd let them back into their home. That stuff is terrible. Use a face mask if you're scraping the paint or sanding.

Not sanding, just scraping, then the chips in the garbage. We are not chewing it, but I do not want any birds eating it!

Sorry for everyone’s water, chicken, and home buying problems. :hugs:hugs:hugs For everyone who needs them.

Baby is still staying put but I’m getting more active contractions off and on. I really want to just nap this dreary day away, but I have to work.

It is raining cats and dogs here today. We can really see where we need to put our water management systems in place around the house, which, I suppose, is a good thing.

We had a critter that was getting into things on the porch of the old farm house. We set a have-a-hart trap only to have the bait stolen and the trap sprung with nothing inside it. So we got our dog proof traps out and we caught a HUGE old coon overnight. I guess he was big enough that he could trigger the have-a-Hart and still slip out because his body was preventing the door from closing. He’s been taken care of.

View attachment 1818504 This is gross chicken diarrhea from this morning. Its grass green. Whatever the Marans hen was vomiting was this color. I'm wondering if there was something with the grass I gave them. They had eaten the grass out of the run so I didn't think anything of it. But I found my sidewalk and the sod I pulled off in sheets I let them scratch through.

View attachment 1818503 And then there is this... my other Marans girl apparently had 2 eggs in the chamber. The one that is still in egg shape was on the floor and at 73 grams I'm guessing has both yolks. The slimy mess was in a nest box. It was more egg shaped before the other tiny dinosaurs found it and I had to fight to get it back.

I do have a carport frame out there to support bird netting. I could try and move it closer to the building and add a tarp over the top. I'll have to find the feet in all this mud before I can move it. (I knew I wanted to put it in wheels. I should have listened to myself. lol)

It is possible that the grass could cause issues. Some grass has been modified to have resistance to roundup. There are other GMO changes too

Not much longer! This is a nice place to vent, my little paint problem doesn't hold a candle to waiting for Thing2! And trapping a huge old coon while doing that! Best Wishes for a good delivery.:)

The person on BYC that had the issue with lead chips had the paint chipping off of the outside of the house. The lead gets into the soil so to get rid of the problem, the pain has to be removed from the house and soil removed then either gravel or new soil moved in.

In my signature there is a link to the egg study thread I started. The results of lead in the eggs at my place is there. I do not have a list of labs, but eggs can be sent in for testing

Sometimes mowed grass could be swallowed whole and wad up in their crop. Grass clippings are easier for them to eat too much, not like when they have to pick it themselves. Long grass in the yard they won't eat the whole long piece.

Oh, that's horrible. All the more reason to put up siding when possible.
