Monday night I had caged Loki to break her from being broody. She was locked up all day yesterday and I let her out w/ everyone else in the evening to range. When I put everyone back in she went out into the run w/ everyone else so I let her stay out. This am I looked into the coop and saw her back in a nest.. except it wasn't her, it was Toothless. Loki was out in the run.. looks like she's broken & all it took was one day in the cage. Hopefully it's for good b/c I'm worried she'll glue her but back to the nest again right before we leave this weekend.

Holy moly!! I pulled peas out and gathered a 13 gallon bag worth to shell.
:th

I think I will put pile beans and carrots in where peas were.

Maybe a couple more cukes too.

It is already got out. :(

Exactly zero bush beans sprouted where the spinach had been. :hmm

I will dig a couple up to see what the tater.

Ok so the dig up turned up zero bean seeds sprouting or otherwise. :hmm

The soil was certainly warm enough...rain and watering damp enough....no grubs found....

Maybe bad seed that rotted completely away. :hmm

I will go to the garden center today and see what plants are available. :(
Maybe that is where carrots should go.....
That entire bed of soil was sifted when filled. Nothing over 1/4" made it in there.

About 90 days remain in our growing season.

Any ideas???

You can still poke more bean seeds in. You can plant them every 2 weeks for a continuous supply. Sometimes they just don't germinate.

Summer squash, tomatoes of some kind? I had a bunch of cherry tomatoes come up volunteer last year, they produced really fast and I gathered a lot despite the tomato worms and chickens.
13 gallon bag of peas huh? That is a lot of shelling!

Waiting on Marlene to get off the nest before I put the roost up since i'm noisy.
Had to spray some wasps too "again" can't do anything with wasps in there.
Don't know why she's on the nest, after the roost egg she won't lay.
Poor thing is hot so she's panting and making all kinds of noises.
I'm glad she's light colored that saves her a little. :)

Maybe birds or small rodents eating them?

Grumpy here :( I have only Hosta outside - a lot of the neighbors do also, but obviously the deer prefer mine. Go out to discover all the flower buds are bitten off neatly. Plus the leaves are pocked with beetle nibbles.

Think next year I will fool all of them. I will buy plastic flowers etc. and poke them in the raised beds.

The neighbors dog was barking her head over. I knew it wasn't over a squirrel because she runs back and forth. She just had her eyes locked on something to the side of my fenced yard.

Aha, I went out to find a buck eating my plants. He didn't want to leave, then went behind some bushes and trees and disappeared. I'm sure he came out again later.

Also 3 of the next door neighbors were just admiring his looks. They don't care, it doesn't dare bother their plants.:rant

That was my first thought. No signs of digging at all though.

I think that pack of seeds have me trouble last year too. :hmm
I should have thrown them out then.

My one pumpkin plant has baby pumpkins set on. Those should be good roasted. They are a variety that makes small fruits.
:drool
I am actually having a decent garden this year for the most part. I never grew broccoli before but it is doing really well.

I think I need to cut the lower leaves off Brussel sprouts from what I read about growing those.

The hostas in back have been eaten too, iv'e got two maybe three flower stalks left.
I suspect my fawn buddy. :)

I have an untamed mulberry tree in the side back yard. I’ve been keeping an eye on it because its full of fruit but very few ripe ones.
Today I found out why.
There were 3-4 squirrels hanging upside down pulling ripe berries and stuffing their little faces! I knew birds ate them but I’ve never seen a squirrel do that. Probably running around with purple faces.
