Yes you can help it. Put the biggest chunk in a plastic bag with damp soil and loosely close the bag around the stem part.
Set your bag in a warm place and keep the soil damp, it will root.
Lazy alternative, put on ground where you want rose to be cover where green meets brown stub with moist soil and put a rock on the soil so it dosent wash away or get moved it will root.

I agree with Chicky. You can water the ground and rose with "quick start" to help it.
