We have new yard visitors.

Someone has let their cats out to roam. I assume same household as both cats have similar collars.

With being close to 2 major roadways and our hawk presence I worry about those kitties. :hmm

They made trips through my yard during the night. The light on the coop was triggered a few times. I always check as it wakes me. It was the tiger striped kitty.

Chicky? Maybe "rocket fuel" will help.
 Might sting a bit though.

Good morning, at the Cardiologist's office already today. I need my coronary artery checked. Been 5 years since I had a cath, and it was narrowed then. All Dad's side of the family died of heart issues, I am not waiting to have a heart attack before I get checked.
Smart move, best of luck cappy :fl:hugs

Definitely don't want issues there. :th
:fl For good results Cappy.

I guess my family isn't the only one losing their flock. I'm really sorry for all of the sickness that seems to be going around!

So my family just moved. We had already been having issues with predators, and our flock was down a lot. We gave the chickens to someone in Pennsylvania who we knew and trusted. All of them got eaten by a mystery predator, including Dove, our sweet chocolate orpington. So I'm currently chicken-less.
So sorry for your loss, but glad to hear from you. Hope all is well for you and your family, otherwise. [Rae had her baby if you didn't go back that far... cute pictures throughout the thread recently, just search for her username in the thread & you'll find them.]

Update: Blossom has been taken in by my parents. I wasn't able to provide the level of care she needed because I am gone all day during the week, and the emotional toll of everything was getting to be too much for me.
My Dad is taking great care of her though. Her appetite is still poor and she requires someone to draw her attention to the food or she won't eat. But she is drinking more and has also started standing more and even walking around a bit which she wasn't doing before. I am really hoping she pulls through. If she does she will have a permanent home with my parents' flock, as I will not be getting any more birds this year.

Thank you all for the love and support. :hugs
So glad she's still alive & you've got someone who can take care of her. It's so hard when they need 24/7 care. It'll be good to start over fresh next spring. Hopefully whatever it was will move on.

12 is a pretty good flock! I have only 1 in my flock. My chicken coop took a beating in a storm a couple of weeks ago, and am having to do a lot of repair/rebuild. My old flock ended up as 2 flocks, the nice fat orpingtons and the Brown Leghorns, who would not get along with others! I would keep leghorns in their own flock if I got them again. They are little raptors in a lot of ways, great layers and great free ranging birds. The roosters were beautiful and great guardians. The white eggs were always fertile!
I agree. 12 is a nice amount & they'll have more space in the winter if I have to do the locking up thing.
Do you have a house chicken while you're repairing, or is it still livable? My production girls are/were fairly raptory.. they're the feather peckers in my group. I always worry about adding to the flock b/c I have several low rung girls [Olive included] that get picked on more than I'd like. I think I'm going to hold off on any new additions until I'm able to get my own house. How are your renovations going?

My first girls were brown leg horns. "About 2" years old. They are how I got my name. I still have 1 of them. She must be going on 7. Still a red comb and an egg every so often. Shes not as friendly with me as some of the other girls but will eat out of my hand. She prefers I don't touch her. LOL She does walk around muttering to herself like the matriarch she is. I've never seen another girl peck her. (She currently is down to one tail feather and a very sparse body covering. But we don't talk about that!)

In storm news I had 2 trees come down.
View attachment 1913549 View attachment 1913551 Well almost down. Luckily I have the nicest friends. A 40 min drive to my place with tree gear and they were cut up!View attachment 1913552 View attachment 1913553
Worried about the others that were still there and too close to the power lines for comfort I called the power company. They have a forestry crew that keeps an eye on trees near lines. But I had no idea when they were there last, when some trees were topped, other had died...it was a mess.

I get a call only 2 days later and it's a man who says he's in my yard. I apologize I'm not home and he responds "I know the girls told me." Guy was visiting with my chickens! :gigSo I explain that I inherited this mess and wanted to talk to the power company first then make plans from there. He asked what the goal was and I said "Frankly, get as much work done as I can for free." He tells me the crews are out with all the storm damage so he'll have them out to my place the next day. Storm damage is free work.

I've got a mess to clean up but 9 trees taken down and cut up for FREE!

I also now sport the latest poison ivy fashion.

Got a shot and a rx topical.
Sucks for the poison ivy & the down trees, but yay for the free tree cutting. Are you going to stack the wood or have a HUGE bonfire?

Nice poison ivy Nunny lol.
Be careful wiping your butt ya know why.
I promise you it is easier to forget about than you think even if that is your second in command for that job.
Im pretty versed on this particular snafu, topicals aren't very crack worthy .:)
:lau

You should be here at this gigantic swap tomorrow. I brought my sleeping bag and will be up early.
I love your title.. not as LOL as Chicky's Wattle Fondler, but it made me smile when I noticed it.

Well I talked to her.
I abandoned my disabled sister, left her with nothing and robbed her of precious final moments.
No free house, car, hidden millions I pretty much left her to die.
I didn't even care either, no emotion, obviously a monster.

Even if I mended my evil, heartless dastardly ways apparently I look so much like my great grandmother im too spooky to be around anyway.
This one is actually true.:lau
And iv'e gone crazy like my great aunt Lizbeth, iv'e heard tell I hide behind trees just like her....they got me.:gig
What in the heck, these people are 50, 60, 70 years old, not teenagers.
Funny they think im the nut ball.

Thank you Bob :)
Oh.. wow. Sounds like some of the crazy carp that happens in my family. My cousin was absolutely certain that she and her sisters were going to get their mom's portion of my gma's estate & was mad when my gma gave her car to my dad instead of her. Then she was livid when my gma didn't give her the house & my dad bought it from the estate. Entitled is the word for these people. Let them believe what they want. If they can't figure out what she is all about then that's there problem.

Its o.k, iv'e seen all this before it is just my first go round as the chewy center of the crazy bar.
My sister is still pretty butthurt apparently most the chunks are hers enhanced with extra pity party for one..her absolute fav.
She isn't disabled, eternal t*tty baby isn't a disability.
Did not leave her destitute, followed the will like an adult 50/50.
Did not rob her of jack. She robbed herself bullying our mom and acting like a moron.
I was asked to remove the issue, so im a moment robber..lock me up!
I do not hide behind trees yet.
I WILL look at you out the window and not let you in if I dont want to mess with you.
That dosent sound as good though, and everybody already knows im a jerk she spiced that up for me! :lau
Very descriptive! A+ for creative writing this week!
Don't you love it when people let you know that you did the right thing when you stopped talking to them. Haven't talked to my mom in months.. my daughter is still friends w/ her on fb & she showed me a post where my mom bashed me for not talking to her and that she needed a ride to the dr in Oct.. Of course when everyone attended their pity party no one bothered to ask why I wasn't speaking to her, or why it only seemed to be an issue when she needed something. I'm tired of being the fixer.

@Rubysword It's good to hear from you, I'm sorry about your flock. We lost Gurtrude to complications from getting spayed (she was internally laying) this past July. She was doing really well, but then had a ruptured air sac that caused a pneumothorax. I didn't have a large enough guage needle to reduce it and she wouldn't have made it to the vet in time.
:hugs

Good morning! Just about to go open the heathen floodgates, it seems to be nippy out there.
Sent my aunt on dad's side a happy b-holeday greeting thanks to predictive text and morning duhhhh.
Oh well, hope she gets her wish.:D
This made me laugh. I told my coworker what you said and he said "everyone should have a happy bhole day everyday.

Lol, I had to read that twice because that is a whole lotta crazy Henny.
You're my hero for making it out in one piece.
You must have made some unusually strong coffee this morning.:D

Well after hours and hours and hours a little break then a couple more hours of everybody doing the goooo butt!! cheer.
It is my bleeding ears pleasure to announce Kiwi is a woman.
Also Kiwi is not an olive egger.
Kiwi pretty much lays gumballs.
Gooooo butt!! :wootView attachment 1914144
Congrats!

Well y'all tomorrow will be a drooly dog day for me.
I will be dog sitting due to an oops where a mom dog stepped on puppy breaking his tiny leg.
He will be at the csu vet clinic in the morning so someone has to keep an eye on mom to prevent another oops.

If I am never seen again we all know why. :th
That poor little pupper! Soooo I'm guessing you don't want the broken one.

How'd you do?

Smart to get it checked out, esp since the lyme disease could cover up symptoms of heart issues. I hope everything is ok!

Started the weekend w/ 12 birds and ended w/ 12. I even went over this am to make sure everyone was still alive.
I tossed all the feed on Friday & cleaned out the coop. Last night I noticed Olive's tail bleeding so I caged her and of course she has my daughter's attitude so she was freaking out about being caged, knocked her food all over the floor & acted like I was killing her. I was worried she'd offed herself being stupid over night so I went over to check on her & refill her food. She was fine & I gave her a bit of scratch to get her to stop being stupid as I left. I'm hoping it only takes a few days for her feathers to come in enough that the others leave her alone. Luckily it's only supposed to be mid 70's all week & today it's rain/ thunderstorms most of the day so she'd be inside anyway. I even gave her a chunk of pumpkin so she wouldn't miss out on that either.
Nibbler seems to be doing better. She's walking normal & eating, but seems to lie down a bit more than usual. It could be b/c of the heat or maybe she's sad.. IDK how much chickens actually notice when someone's gone. I'm going to continue the corrid throughout the weekend.

Well the broken puppy is getting good vet care and the lady owner is an EMT so I am sure he will be just fine.

Would we welcome a busted dog into our home? Of course we would.
However we are looking to get a female and he is a he.

I survived the puppy pile lol. :D

Gretchen the mom dog slept and was a good girl. The puppies had just eaten so slept too. I believe hubs is looking at the 2 runt females in Gretchens litter. I am leaning toward the darker one. No way to predict which hubs will ultimately choose.

Yes my birds seem to miss a flock member when there is a passing. It took Sandy a week to get past losing the EE bff she had. I have seen my flock more subdued when a member goes.
:hugs Time helps.
