I may set up a feeding station to get them used to the area I want to put the traps... somewhere that can't be seen from the road.

I also run a chain from the trap to a fence post or some other object a coon can't move like my hay trailer. When I used the latter, I ended up having to move the chain to the gator and drag the coon out for a clean shot.

I got the anchor with wire, made for these, for that very reason. I could attach them to a tree otherwise.

We used rubber coated cable to loop through the chain, we would then wrap the cable around the post and run the trap through the cable loop, this makes the cable get tighter the more they pull.

I would likely do both or as Rae suggests. They are cunning and amazingly strong for their size.
